矢とは、鉄製のクサビのことです。あらかじめノミで開けた穴に、このクサビを差し込み、ゲンノウで矢の頭を強く叩き、岩を割ります。
Here was a stone quarry in old days (Muromachi era). We can watch the trace of the arrow hole.
"An arrow" is an iron wedge. A stone mason inserts the arrow into a hole which made with a chisel beforehand. And he breaks a rock by strongly beating the arrow with a hammer.
