キングサリ golden chain

　花数がもっと増えて垂れ下がると、鎖のイメージに近づきます。見かけによらず、全体に毒を持ち、特に実には強い毒があります。

　As the number of flowers increases and hangs down, it approaches the image of a chain. All of it has poison, especially the berry has strong. Appearances can be deceiving. 

山法師(ヤマボウシ) Japanese Flowering Dogwood

　この球体が、秋には甘くておいしい実になります。食感がザラザラと悪いのが残念です。

　This sphere becomes a sweet and delicious berry in autumn. Unfortunately, the texture is rough.

箱根空木(ハコネウツギ) Weigela coraeensis

　ひとつの木に、赤・白・ピンクの花が咲いています。

　ハコネウツギかニシキウツギのどちらかですが、花冠が釣鐘状なので、ハコネウツギとしました。ニシキウツギは漏斗状です。

　Red, white, and pink flowers are in bloom on one tree.

　The tree is either Weigela coraeen or Weigela coraeen, but since the corolla is bell-shaped, I chose Weigela coraeen. Weigela coraeen is funnel-shaped.

カタバミ oxalis

　鞘の中にある種は、透明な皮をまとっています。この皮には弾力があり、刺激を受けると弾けて、目にも留まらぬ速さで種を放出します。種は、１～２mも飛ぶそうです。

　Each seeds in pods are covered in clear skin. This skin is elastic, pops when stimulated, and releases the seed at lightning speed. It flies from 1 to 2 metres.

山椒(サンショウ) Japanese pepper(sansyo)

　サンショの若葉を擂る(する)と、葉が軸から分かれます。炒っても、凍らせても同様に分離できるので、軸の存在を気にせず料理ができます。料理のなかに、軸が存在することは好まれませんね。

　When you grinde young leaves of Japanese pepper, sansho in Japanese, the leaves separate from the axis. It can be separated in the same way, whether it is roasted or frozen, so you can cook regardless of  the existence of the axis.

蜜柑(ミカン) mikan

　ミカンの果実はよく食べるのですが、花を見るのは初めてです。ジャスミンに似たとても良い香りがします。

　I often eat mikan fruit, but this is my first time to see the flowers. It has a very pleasant fragrance that resembles jasmine.

夕化粧(ユウゲショウ) rose evening primrose

　夕化粧という名前ですが、朝から咲いています。

　Although it has the word of the evening in its name, it blooms from the morning.

蛇苺(ヘビイチゴ) false strawberry

　ヘビイチゴは、バラ科の植物です。

　名前に蛇がついていますが、蛇はこの実を食べないことは、みなさん御存知の通り。カラスが食べたという目撃情報がありますが、頭のよい遊び好きなカラスが、遊んでいただけかも知れません。

　False strawberry is a plant belonging to the Rosaceae family. It is a plant that is distributed in Japan and Southeast Asia.

　A word of snake exists in the name of Japanese, but we know that snakes don't eat it. There is a witness that crow ate it, but I suppose smart and playful crow may have just played.

大麦(オオムギ) barley

　オオムギの棘状に伸びる"のぎ"は、コムギに比べ長くて立派です。

　The "awn" of barley in the form of whisker is longer and more splendid than that of wheat.

ジャガイモ potato

　花が一斉に咲いています。ジャガイモは種芋から増やすので、たとえ花が実を結んでも利用されることはありません。

　Many flowers are in full bloom. Potatoes are produced from seed potatoes, so although the flowers bear fruit, they will not be used.

金宝樹(ブラシノキ) bottlebrush

　見るからにブラシの形をした花です。さらに、赤い色も鮮烈で印象に強く残ります。

　This flower's shape clearly resembles a brush. Furthermore, the red color is also bright and leaves a strong impression on me.

編みかご vine basket

　森で採取した蔦で、籠を作ってみました。YouTubeを参考に、初めての試みでしたが困難もなく、とても楽しいひとときを過ごすことができました。

　I made a basket of vines which I collected in the forest. I challenged myself to make a vine basket for the first time referring to the YouTube, but  I had a great time without any problems.

かぶれに注意

　ツタウルシは、かぶれ成分を含んでいます。触れることのないよう注意してください。ツタウルシは至る所に生えています。

　見分け方は、葉が全縁(幼葉は切れ込みあり)、卵形の3出複葉で軸を介してつるに葉がついています。

Beware of Poison Ivy Rash

　Poison ivy contains a rash substance. Be careful not to touch it. Poison ivy grows everywhere.

　The way to distinguish it is that the leaves are whole fringes (young leaves have notches) and trifoliate compound leaves, which are attached to the vine via short branches.

オダマキ columbine

　まだ開ききっていないので、ちょっと違ったイメージです。

　It's not completely open yet, so it's a bit different than my Columbine flower image.

モモイロタンポポ Red hawksbeard

　モモイロタンポポは、普通のタンポポに比べ茎が長いので切花にも使えます。

　Red c could be used for cut flowers because it has a longer stem compared to ordinary dandelions.

麦仙翁(ムギセンノウ) corn cockle

　ムギセンノウは、風に揺れる姿が風情があってよいです。この写真では、静止しているので残念です。

　It's nice that the corn cockle swinging into the wind tastes good. It's a pity that it's motionless in this photo.

芍薬(シャクヤク) Chinese peony

　シャクヤクの蕾は、まん丸です。

　The bud shape of a Chinese peony is a perfect sphere.

釣鐘水仙(ツリガネスイセン) Spanish bluebell

　草むらの中にツリガネスイセンが自生していました。近くに薄いピンク色の個体も咲いていますが、足場が悪く写真に撮ることができませんでした。

 　Spanish bluebell was growing naturally in the grass. A pale pink was also in bloom nearby, but I couldn't take a picture because of the slippery slope.

桐(キリ)の花 flower of empress tree

　桐は、高貴な植物と見做されている落葉広葉樹です。今日は、花が沢山地面に散っていました。

　Empress tree is a deciduous broad-leaved tree that is considered a noble plant. Many flowers were scattered on the ground today.

白雲木(ハクウンボク) styrax obassia

　白い花びらの中に、黄色い雄しべが目立ちます。

　Yellow stamens stand out in the white petals.

カルミア kalmia

　砂糖菓子のようにも見えますが、葉には毒があります。

　It looks like a sugar candy, but the leaves are poisonous. 

ネモフィラとポピー nemophila & poppy

ネモフィラとポピーの咲く小さな丘です。

Here is a small hill where nemophila and poppies are blooming.

ドレスデン dresden

　ドレスデンが、バラの先頭をきって咲き始めました。

　ドレスデンは、寒さや雨に花弁が痛みやすいのではないかと思います。

　Dresden started to bloom before others roses.

　I think the petals of Dresden tend to be affected by cold and rain.

大蔓穂(オオツルボ) scilla peruviana

　初めてオオツルボを見たときは、その異国情緒たっぷりの雰囲気に驚嘆しました。

　When I saw scilla peruviana for the first time, I was amazed at its exotic atmosphere.

クレマチス clematis

　庭に咲くこの花を今までテッセンだと思っていました。テッセンは花びらが6枚、クレマチスは8枚ということなので、これはクレマチスですね。

　I used to think that this flower in my garden a Asian virginsbower. They say Asian virginsbower has six petals and clematis has eight, so I think it's clematis.

ほうれん草 spinach

　あまり見る機会はありませんが、これはほうれん草の雌花です。白い糸のようなものは雌しべです。葉が、あたかも花を包み込む、火炎のように見えます。

　You don't see it often, but this is a female spinach flower. Something like a white thread is a pistil. The leaves look like flames, wrapping the flowers.

白い藤 white Japanese wisteria

　今年は藤の当たり年のようです。あちこちで見事な藤を見ました。

　I think this year seems to be a good year for Japanese wisteria and I've seen some wonderful Japanese wisteria here and there. 

花韮(ハナニラ) spring star

　先日は、オオアマナの花の写真を掲示しました。今日の花は、ハナニラです。

　ハナニラとオオアマナの花はよく似ています。英名では、どちらもベツレヘムの星と呼ばれることがあります。

　The other day, I posted a photo of a flower of star of Bethlehem. Today's flower is spring star.

　Those flowers are very similar each other. The two are often called the same name, Bethlehem stars, in English.

射干/胡蝶花(シャガ) fringed iris

　足場が悪い、流れの斜面に咲いていたので、ちょっと緊張して撮影しました。

　There were flowers on the slope of the small brook where was poor scaffolding, so I was a little nervous when shooting them.

棕梠(シュロ) chusan palm

　シュロは成長が遅く、直立して周りに広がらず、手のかからない植物なので、かつては狭い日本の住居の庭にも植えるブームがありました。でも、何十年も立つと背が高くなりすぎて、手がつけられなくなります。

　私は植木屋ではありませんが、依頼され伐採をしたことがあります。幹は木質というより繊維の束でした。そして見かけによらずとても重かったです。

　ご家庭の庭に木を植えるときは、大きく成長した姿を想像してからにしましょう。

　この写真では、シュロの葉が人間の頭、黄色い密集した花が腕、幹が胴体のように私には見えます。パレイドリア現象ですね。

　Chusan palm grows slowly, stands upright, does not spread, and does not need time and effort, so there was a boom in the past to plant it in the garden of a small Japanese dwelling. But tens of years later, it becomes too tall to be handled properly.

　I was not a gardener, but I was asked to cut down the trees. Its trunk was something like a bundle of fibers rather than woodenness. And it was very heavy than I thought.

　When you plant a tree in your garden, think about how big it becomes.

　In this photo, the palm leaves look like a human head, the dense yellow flowers look like arms, and the trunk looks like a body. It's a Pareidolia phenomenon, isn't it?

鈴蘭(スズラン) Lily of the valley

　忘れ去られていた庭のスズランが咲き始めました。

　スズランは、君影草(キミカゲソウ)という素敵な別名を持っています。

　

　The forgotten lily of the valley in my garden has begun to bloom.

　It has a nice alias called "Kimikage-sou" which means to bloom quietly behind the leaves.

　

大甘菜(オオアマナ) star of Bethlehem

　アブが蜜を吸っていましたが、これは毒草、大丈夫なのでしょうか。

　勿論、大丈夫ですね。花粉を媒介してくれる大切な昆虫ですから。

　A horsefly is sucking its nectar, but it is a poisonous plant. I wonder if there is any problem. 

　Of course, there's nothing to worry about. Because insects are an important partner which transports pollen.
