竹似草(タケニグサ) Plume poppy

　どこが竹にに似ているのでしょう。

　外見ではなく、茎が中空だからです。皇帝ダリアの茎ももっと竹にそっくりですね。

　The Japanese name of the plant means it looks like bamboo. What part of plume poppy looks like bamboo? 

　It's not because of its shape, but because of its hollow trunk. However, the trunk of Emperor Dahlia is more like bamboo.

ソーラーバイクアドベンチャー The Solar Bike Adventure

　太陽パネルを付けた自転車でヨーロッパ6カ国を通過する約2000kmのアルプスツアーが2020年の6月に行われます。こんなすばらしいロケーションを走れるなんて素晴らしい企画ですね。

　The Alps tour of about 2,000km to pass 6 countries in Europe by bicycle with solar panel will be held.  It is a great project to be able to run at such a splendid location.

コムラサキ early amethyst

　コムラサキとムラサキシキブは、別の種類ですが幹の表情は似ています。どちらも頼りない感じがします。

　右下にショウリョウバッタのペアが止まっています。

　Early amethyst and Japanese beautyberry are different species, but their trunks look similar. I feel both are weak.

　A pair of oriental long-headed grasshoppers is at the bottom right of the photo.

露草(ツユクサ) dayflower

　ツユクサの花びらは3枚あります。上側の2枚は青く大きく目立ちますが、下の1枚は白くて小さいので目を凝らさないと見えません。

　A dayflower has 3 petals. The upper two petals are blue and bigger and stand out, but the lower one is white and small, so you can't see it unless you pay close attention.

星朝顔(ホシアサガオ) littlebell

　小さい花をつけるアサガオで、花の直径は15㎜程度です。外来種であり、有害な雑草と見なされています。

　It is a morning glory with small flower which diameter is about 15 mm. It is an introduced species and now is considered a noxious weed.

アマガエル Japanese tree frog

　愛らしい小さなカエルですが、皮膚には体を細菌から守る毒性の粘液が分泌されています。目に入ると失明の恐れもあるので、子どもたちが触らないように注意してあげましょう。

　水場でなく、木の上で生息するので、水かきがほとんどありません。

　A Japanese tree frog is small and lovely, but the skin secretes toxic mucus that protects the body from bacteria. Be careful not to let the children touch it, as it may cause blindness if it gets in our eyes.

　It lives on trees, not in water, so it has almost no webbing.

クレメオ spider flowers

　その姿から花魁草（オイランソウ）とも呼ばれますが、オイランソウという花は別にあります。

　Its another name is Oiran-sou because of its appearance, but there is another flower called Oiran-sou.

　Oiran was a specific category of high ranking courtesan in Japanese history. And sou means grass.

ガマズミ Viburnum dilatatum

　ガマズミの実には、ポリフェノールが沢山含まれているので、高血圧や動脈硬化の予防に効果があるそうです。

　Viburnum dilatatum contains a lot of polyphenols, so it seems to be effective in preventing high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis.

彼岸花(ヒガンバナ) red spider lily

見頃が少し過ぎたようで、多くの花では朱色が抜けて白っぽくなっていました。

　It seems that the best time to see the red spider lily has passed, and many of the flowers have lost their vermilion color and have become whitish.

韮(ニラ) oriental garlic

　韮の花に、数匹のツマグロヒョウモンが蜜を吸うために来ていました。韮の蜜は臭くないのでしょうかね。

　Several Indian Fritillary came to the flowers of oriental garlic to suck the nectar. I wonder if the honey smells bad.

花虎ノ尾(ハナトラノオ) Physostegia virginiana

　花は整列して、下から咲き進でいます。

　雨あがりで湿度が高かったせいか、蚊が元気付いており、花を鑑賞するどころではありませんでした。

　The mosquitoes were vital, probably because of the high humidity after the rain, so it was hard to appreciate the flowers.

仙人草(センニンソウ) Sweet Autumn Clematis

　センニンソウは、ウシノハコボレとも呼ばれます。牛がこの草を食べると、歯がこぼれ落ちるかどうか真偽はわかりませんが、有毒であることは間違いないです。他にも、ウマクワズという別名もついています。

　The Sweet Autumn Clematis is also known as "Ushinoha-kobore" in Japanese. "Ushinoha-kobore" means that teeth of a cow slip out from his/her mouth. I don't know if cows eat this grass and their teeth spill, but it's definitely toxic. It has also another name, "Uma-kuwazu" meaning horse doesn't eat it.

晴れのち曇り sunny followed by clouds

　天気予報では、明後日の午前中は久しぶりに太陽が顔をだすようです。でも、午後は曇るそうです。

　According to the weather forecast, the morning after tomorrow, it will become clear for the first time in a while. However, it appears cloudy in the afternoon.

首を冷やすタオル towel to cool the neck

　先日の暑い日、都立公園で、水に浸すだけで首が冷たくなるタオルをいただきました。その後、天気が悪く寒い日が続き、タオルの出番がありません。暑いか寒いかのどちらかで、ちょうど良い日がありません。

　The other day, on a hot day, at a metropolitan park, I was given a towel that makes my neck cool just by soaking it in water. Since then, it's been raining and getting cold, so I haven't used the towel. The temperature is either hot or cold. There are no days when the temperature is comfortable.

アメイロアリ Nylanderia flavipes

　ムクゲの花に、透明できれいなべっ甲色をした小さな蟻がたかっていました。後で調べると、このアリの名前はアメイロアリでした。

　There were some small ants on the  the Hibiscus syriacus flower. It was a transparent and beautiful tortoiseshell-colored ant. Later, when I looked up the name of the ant, I found that it was a "ameiro-ari". In Japan, ameiro means candy-color and ari means an ant.

悪茄子(ワルナスビ) devil's tomato

　2021年7月17日に投稿したホソバウンランが数を減らし、その跡にワルナスビが出現してきました。どちらも強壮の多年草で、同じ時期に咲くと思っています。両者、同じ場所をシェアしているのか、あるいは競い合っているのだろうか。

　The number of yellow toadflax posted on July 17, 2021 has decreased, and the devil's tomatoes have appeared on the site. Both are vigorous perennials and bloom at the about same period, I think. I don't know whether they share or compete in the same field.

屁糞葛(ヘクソカズラ) skunk vine

　葉などを傷つけると悪臭を放つので、屁糞などという不名誉な名前をつけられました。雑草扱いですが、花自体は可愛いと思います。

　When the leaves and other parts are damaged, it gives off a bad smell, so it was called shameful name, "hekuso", it means  fart and shit in Japanese. It is treated as a weed, but I think the flowers themselves are cute.
