江戸彼岸 edohigan
江戸彼岸（エドヒガン）は、染井吉野（ソメイヨシノ）より一週間程早く咲き始めます。江戸彼岸は、野生種です。オオシマザクラと交配することにより、染井吉野が作出されました。

枝垂れ桜は、weeping cherry tree、枝垂柳は、weeping willowと英訳されます。私のイメージでは、drooping または hanging down です。でも、weepingの方が、情緒的ですね。

2020東京オリンピック・パラリンピックのエンブレムは、市松模様をアレンジしたもので良いデザインだと思います。盗作騒に始まり、夏の暑さが心配になり、今はCOVID-19で開催があやぶまれる多難なオリンピックになってしましました。

いろいろな名前を持つ花です。それだけ身近に咲く花なのでしょう。
以前、海岸で群生して咲いているのを見ました。塩害に強いのだと思います。

完璧を求めすぎる人は、ルーチン作業に向いているけれど、局所にとらわれがちで、リーダーになることは難しいようです。ほどほどにしておきましょう。

People who seek too much perfection are good at routine work, but it is hard for them to be leaders because they tend to get trapped by small details. Let's do everything in moderation.

下を向いて咲く控えめな花ですが、毒をもつそうです。ヘレボルスという名は、ギリシア語の殺すと食べ物との合成造語と言われています。でも、その毒性は、それほど強いものではないそうです。

14世紀にヨーロッパでは、伝染病の黒死病が大流行しました。感染防止のため、伝染病の疑いが出た船舶は、検疫期間として沖合で40日間の待機が強いられました。イタリア語では、"40の" を表す形容詞に、"quaranta" があります。これが検疫 "quarantine" の語源になったと聞きました。ちなみに、フランス語の "40" は、"quarante" です。他にも、4にまつわる単語は、"qua" で始まるものが多いですね。
船舶間の通信に使われる世界共通の旗として、国際信号旗があります。この旗には、検疫に関する旗もあります。Yellow Jackと呼ばれる信号旗Limaは、港では、検疫停船中を意味し、海上では、貴船は直ちに停船されたしです。

There are the international maritime signal flags are used in communication between ships. Those include the flag about quarantine. Signal flag "Lima" called the "Yellow Jack" which when flown means "The ship is under quarantined" in harbor, "You should stop your vessel instantly" at sea.

ネコヤナギ rose-gold pussy willow
雄花のおしべの先端には赤やくが付いています。やくが開くと中から黄色の花粉が出てきます。今日は、黄色というより金色に輝いていました。

ヒアシンス hyacinth
せっかくのヒアシンスでしたが、スギ花粉が大量に飛んでいたので、香りも嗅がずに退散しました。
