大根(ダイコン) violet orychophragmus

　大根の収穫は、花が咲く前に行なわれるので、花を見る機会はあまりありません。それは、ショカツサイの花ににています。

　Since violet orychophragmus are harvested before they bloom, there are few chances to see the flowers. The flowers resemble those of Orychophragmus violaceus.

文目(アヤメ) siberian iris

　小道の塀際に咲いていました。アヤメとカキツバタ、ハナショウブはよく似ているので区別は難しいですが、ここは湿地ではないのでアヤメだと思います。

　It blooms along the wall of the path.

　Siberian iris, rabbitear iris, and Japanese iris are very similar, so it is difficult to distinguish them, but I think it is a Siberian iris because here is dry ground.

　アオキは雌雄異株で、これは雌株の花です。

　曲げると簡単に折れる緑色の幹は、古くなると、表面は、灰茶色で粗いコルク質になるので見栄えがしません。

　A Japanese laurel is dioecious, and this is a female flower.

　The green trunk, which breaks easily when bent. The surface becomes grayish-brown cork quality over time and has a rough surface, which makes it unattractive.

アジュガ ajuga

　アジュガは、変わった名前だと思います。名前の由来はなんなのでしょう。

　いかにもシソ科の植物ですという様相です。

　I think Ajuga is a strange name. I want to know the name comes from.

　Ajuga's appearance is nothing but a perilla family plant.

　根っこが、長い年月をかけて、次第に石垣を抱き込んでいきます。その木は、激流をいなし変形すれども、そこ根を張ったままです。

　植物に秘められた力の存在を感じます。

　The root gradually takes stones of the wall into the body over the years. The tree has dodged floodings and has remained there.

　それぞれの石ころには今になった長い歴史があり、どんな経験をしてきたか想像していると、愛着を感じることもあります。でも、通り過ぎれば、二度と巡り合うことはありません。人もおなじ。

　Each stone has a long story up to the present time. While I imagine what kind of the experience you have had so far, I sometimes feel an emotional attachment to the stone. But once I leave the point, we will never meet again. It's the same with people.

蝶道 flight path of a butterfly

　蝶は、通る道が決まっており、それを蝶道と呼ぶそうです。

　ここは、洪水ですべて流された広大な河川敷、菜の花が一株ぽつんと生えているだけです。このような開けた場所でも、蝶道はあるのでしょうか。

　Butterflies have a fixed course, which is called a flight path of a butterfly.

　 Here is a vast riverbed that was completely washed away by the flood, and only one rape blossom is growing. I wonder if there is a flight path of a butterfly path in this an open place.

　暑さ、寒さに強い花蘇芳。日当たりを好むようです。

　Chinese redbuds are tough against heat and cold. It seems to like sunlight.

紫木蓮(シモクレン) magnolia

　そろそろ、見頃も終わりです。

　The best time to look at magnolia is almost over.

ムスカリ grape hyacinth

　最近は、白色のムスカリを見かけるようになりました。

　White grape hyacinths have come to be seen recently.

諸葛菜 (ショカツサイ) violet orychophragmus

　丈夫な植物なので、あちこちで野生化したショカツサイを見かけます。

　A violet orychophragmus is a tough plant, so I notice it which has gone wild here and there.

スノーフレーク galanthus

　スノーフレークとスノードロップは、名前も姿も似ています。時々、どっちがどっちか分からなくなります。

　背景のピンク色は、シバザクラの花です。

　The Japanese name for snowflake is same as English name, and the Japanese name for galanthus is snowdrop. Snowflake and Snowdrop, their name and appearance are similar. Sometimes I can't tell which is which.

君子蘭(クンシラン) clivia

　ランの名がついていますが、実際はヒガンバナ科の植物です。

　面識のないご家庭の玄関に飾られた花を、撮影するのは気が引けます。

　Although the Japanese name includes "orchid", it actually belongs the Amaryllidaceae family.

　I am ashamed to take a picture of the flower at the door of an unfamiliar home.

御衣黄(ギョイコウ) gioiko

　緑色の花を咲かせる桜です。花が咲き進むと中心の赤みが強くなります。珍しい桜ですが、時々見かけるので、それほど希少ではないようです。

　昨日、掲載したフケンゾウとちょっと似ていますね。

　It's a cherry blossom with green flowers on it. As the flowers bloom, the redness in the center becomes deeper. We can't see it everywhere, but it seems to be not so rare because it is seen occasionally. 

　It's a little like the Fukenzo I posted yesterday. 

普賢象(フゲンゾウ) fugenzo cherry

　八重咲きの桜の例に漏れず、遅咲きで今が盛りです。

　A  fugenzo cherry tree blooms late like other double flowered cherry and it is in full bloom now.

 

桜草(サクラソウ) primrose

　サクラソウもシバザクラもどちらも桜に似た花をつけます。サクラソウの方が花びらは幅広です。

　Both primroses and mossy phloxes bloom flowers that look like cherry blossoms. I learned that petals of primrose are wider.

木瓜(ボケ) flowering quince

　雄しべが結構目立ちますね。

　I think stamens are more than a little noticeable. 

椿(ツバキ)の蕾 camellia bud

　イチゴのようです。食べたら美味しいかも。

　It looks like a strawberry and I suppose it would be delicious.

片栗(カタクリ)の実 fruit of dogtooth violet

　今年はカタクリを見ていないことに気づき、見に行きました。そこに、カタクリはもう一輪も咲いていませんでした。

　カタクリの実は熟すと果皮が弾けるので、種が飛び散ります。

　種には柔らかいアリが好む付着物が付いています。アリが種を巣に持ち帰り付着物のみ食べ、種は巣の近くに捨てられます。結果、種はアリによって離れたあちこちに、撒き散らされることになります。

　種を取り出し、舐めてみましたが、微量のためか無味無臭でした。

　群落周辺の木々の伐採が始まっていました。来年以降は、カタクリを見ることができるか気がかりです。

　I noticed that I don't see any dogtooth violets this year and went to see them. No more dogtooth violet was blooming there.

　When the dogtooth violet fruits are ripe, the peels pop and the seeds scatter. 

　Seeds have soft adhering substance of which ants prefer. Ants bring the seeds back to the nest and eat only the adhering substances, and the seeds are thrown away near the nest. As a result, the seeds will be scattered in remote areas by ants.

　I took out the seeds and licked them, but they were tasteless and odorless, probably because of the minute quantity.

　Logging operation has begun around the community, so I'm worried about if we can see dogtooth violets after the next year.

八手(ヤツデ) Japanese Aralia

　葉も果実もよく目立つ植物です。熱帯雨林気候帯の植物かと思いましたが、日本原産の植物でした。

　It is a plant whose leaves and fruits stand out well. I thought it originally grew  in the tropical forest, but it is native to Japan. 

里桜(サトザクラ) satozakura

　サトザクラは、オオシマザクラに由来する多数の園芸品種の総称です。手前が紅色のサトザクラの蕾、背景がオオシマザクラです。

　The cultivated varieties based on "Ooshimazakura" are collectively called "Satozakura." The branches with red buds in the foreground are "Satozakura", and the tree in the background is "Oshimazakura."

椿 Camellia japonica

　厚みと艶のある葉も、花と同様に存在感があります。

　The thick, glossy leaves have the same presence as the flowers.

ヒアシンス hyacinth

　私が始めて見たヒアシンスは、上部に球根を乗せるくびれがある、透明ガラス容器で水耕栽培されていたものでした。そのイメージが刷り込まれてしまって、根の見えない露地植えのヒアシンスには、しっくりきません。

　The first hyacinth I saw was hydroponically grown in a clear glass container with a constriction to put the bulbs on top. The image was imprinted on me,  therefore it does not seem quite right to me that the hyacinth growing in the ground without visible roots.

　アジサイの茎に串刺しになったのか噛み付いたのか、椿の花。

　I'm not sure if the camellia flower was skewered by the hydrangea stem or if it bit the stem.

何だこれは what on Earth is this

道端に生える、この白いもやしのようなものはなんでしょう。葉緑素を持っていないようなので、菌類から栄養を吸い取る腐生植物でしょうか。

　What is this white stuff like bean sprout on the roadside? I wonder if it's a saprophytic plant that takes nutrients out of fungi, because it doesn't seem to have chlorophyll.

　小川の縁に咲いていました。以前、海岸の砂浜でも見かけましたので、塩にも耐性があるのでしょう。

　It bloomed by a brook. I saw it on the sandy beach of the coast before, so I think it is a plant that is resistant to salt damage.

　時折、風が吹き花びらが舞っています。

　Occasionally the wind blows and the petals are fluttering.

土手の桜並木 cherry blossoms lined along the river

　土手の桜は、人との共存のため枝や幹が切られたり、花見客に地面を踏み固められたりと、桜にとっては、あまり良い状況ではありません。

　The cherry blossoms on the bank are not in good condition, because their branches and trunks are cut for coexistence with people or the ground is treaded by viewers.

染井吉野(ソメイヨシノ) somei-yoshino

　蕾はピンク色ですが、咲いた花びらは白色です。

　The buds are pink, but the flower petals are white.
