クマヤナギの実 fruit of Berchemia racemosa
昨年咲いた花がやっと果実になりました。花と実の両方を、同時に見ることができる木です。（写真には実だけ）

サラサドウダン Enkianthus campanulatus
サラサドウダンは暑さに弱いそうです。私も暑さには弱いので、まめに水分補給をして、暑さを乗り切っていきます。

キショウブ Iris pseudacorus
明治時代に渡来した外来種です。日本の栽培種には、黄色が無かったので当初は珍重されましたが、繁殖力が強く今では、要注意外来生物として扱われています。

ヘビイチゴ Potentilla hebiichigo
ヘビイチゴには毒があると、子供の頃によく聞きましたが、実際に毒はありません。なぜ、そんな言い伝えが流布したのでしょう。清潔とは言えない場所に生えているからではないでしょうか。

木材の含水率 moisture content of timber
木にはどのくらい水分が含まれているのか、気になったので調べてみました。
条件により様々な値をとりますが、一例として針葉樹では、心材の水の量は40%から50%、辺材部分では100%から200%といった値になることもあるそうです。
なぜ100%を超えるのか不思議に思いましたが、木材を扱う分野では、水を含まない重量を100として、水分の量を計算するからでした。
含水率(%)=(木材の乾燥前の重量-乾燥後の重量)÷(乾燥後の重量)×100
I wanted to know how much water a tree contains, so I checked it.
It depends on a condition, but as an example, as for a needle-leaved tree, the center part's value is from 40% to 50% and the fringe part's value is from 100% to 200%. They say this value is not rare.
I thought it was strange at first why the value exceeded 100%.
But the reason is that in the timber industry, they defined moisture content as the mass of water present in the timber divided by the mass of the timber with all water removed.

白い倒木 white fallen tree
枯れた倒木の白さにひかれ近づくと、まだ枝の先端から赤い新芽が沢山吹きでていました。
この印象的な赤い芽の木は、多分アメガシワです。

バラの香り sent of roses
ある研究グループが、香りを可視化できる半導体チップを開発したというニュースを聞きました。香りの成分をレーダーチャートで表示できるそうです。今後の実用化を期待します。バラの花ごとのチャートを見比べるなんて、楽しそうですね。

マルバウツギ fuzzy deutzia
ウツギに似た花が咲いていました。開ききって咲くので、マルバウツギだと思います。ウツギの花は、こんなにも開かず、下を向いています。

アヤメ iris
台地の草むらに自生するアヤメです。ここから数百メートル離れたところが、川に面する段丘崖になっています。そこからは大量の湧き水が川へ流れ出ています。周辺には高台など無い場所なのに、どこから水が流れ込んでいるのか不思議です。

五月人形 Gogatsu-ningyo
玄関に飾られた五月人形です。
It is a "Gogatsu-ningyo" of the Children's Day displayed in the entrance hall. A "Gogatsu-ningyo" is composed of an armor, a helmet and other accessories.
May 5th was originally called "Tango no Sekku", or Boy's Festival. And people celebrated the healthy growth of boys. Now, this was changed to Children's Day.
Girl's Festival called "Momo no Sekku" is held on March 3rd. Please read an article of March 12nd, 2018.
