アスチルベ astilbe

　始めは、京鹿の子と思いましたが、どうやらアスチルベのようです。煙るように咲いていました。

　At first, I thought it was possibly Filipendula purpurea, but it most likely Astilbe. It was blooming like smoke.

フリージア・ラクサ freesia laxa

　６枚の花弁のうち、下側の 3 枚の花びらの付け根に、暗いマーキングが入るのが特徴です。不思議ですね。

　The lower three  petals of six petals usually have a darker mark. This characterizes this plant. I wonder why.

蛍袋(ホタルブクロ) spotted bellflower

　提灯花とも呼ばれるように、釣鐘型の花は下向くのがやはり自然です。6月21日に掲載したフウリンソウは、上向きか横向きです。

　The spotted bellflower is also called a "cyouchin-flower" in Japan. A cyouchin means lantern.  In my view, it is more natural that the bell-shaped flowers bloom downward. The canterbury bell posted on June 21 is either upward or sideways.

カクテル cocktail

　一重咲きのシンプルな花ですが、花びらの色合いとグラデーションおよび、花が沢山咲くので、この薔薇は華やかな雰囲気を醸し出しています。

　Although it is a simple single-petaled flower, the shade of colors and gradations of the petals and the many flowers bloom makes this rose a gorgeous atmosphere.

羽衣 hagoromo

　羽衣の咲き方は、剣弁咲きといって、花弁が反り返るので角が尖って見えます。この花は、花弁の組み合わせで、剣があたかも左下から右上に刺さったように見えるので面白いです。

　The way of the hagoromo blooming is called a peaked lapel, and the petals bend back and the corners of the flower are looking sharp. I'm interesting in that this flower looks like as if a sword stuck in the lower left to upper right because of the combination of petals.

アルストロメリア Lily of the Incas

　花びらは、内側と外側の2つのサークルに分かれ、それぞれ３枚あり、赤、オレンジ、紫、緑、白の多くの色合いを持ち、斑点があり、暗い色の縞模様があります。とても華やかな花です。

　The petals are made up of two circles and each circle has three petals respectively. They have many shades of red, orange, purple, green, and white, flecked and streaked with darker colors.  It is a very gorgeous flower.

麦藁菊(ムギワラギク) strawflower

　日本原産かと思っていましたが、実はオーストラリアから伝わった植物です。

　I thought it was native to Japan, but it is actually a plant from Australia.

風鈴草(フウリンソウ) canterbury bell

　釣鐘型の花はどれも下を向いて咲くという先入観があるので、フウリンソウのように上か横向きには不思議な感じがします。

　I have a prejudice that all bell-shaped flowers bloom downward, so I feel strange that Canterbury bells bloom upwards or sideways.

クラゲ jellyfish

　クラゲがゆったりと浮遊する動きは、見る人の心をリラックスさせます。日がな一日見ていたいものです。

　The movement of jellyfishes drifting slowly loosen the viewer's mind. I want to watch them all day long.

秋刀魚(サンマ) pacific saury

　くちばしの部分がうっすら黄味を帯びているのが見てとれます。市場で、この色が残っているサンマは鮮度がよいのです。

　You can see that the around of beak is slightly yellowish. On the market, pacific saury that keeps this color is fresh.

赤いヘリコプター red helicopter

　モミジの種が赤いのはなぜでしょう。バラの新芽が赤いのと同様に、種を赤外線から守るためなのでしょうか。

　Why are the maple seeds red? It might be to protect the seeds from infrared rays, just as the red rose sprouts.

雪の重みにも負けず unbeaten by the weight of snow

　踏みつけられても、押し倒されても、何事もないように、緑色の葉を茂らせます。

怒りもなく、穏やかに。

　The trees grow green leaves as if nothing had happened, even though they were trampled and pushed down. Without any anger. Always serene.

絶対音感 absolute pitch

　ある愛猫家の解剖学者が、猫は言葉を持たない代わりに、絶対音感を持っているといいます。つまり、初見の人に名前を呼ばれても、飼い主の音程とは異なるので、猫は自分が呼ばれたとは認識しないらしい。更に彼は、猫も犬も動物は皆、絶対音感を持っているともいう。この説を皆さんはどう思われますか。

　猫は、何も答えてくれませんでした。

　An cat-loving anatomist says that cats have absolute pitch, or perfect pitch, as a substitute for words. In other words, even if someone who meet the cat for the first time calls it its name, it does not recognize that it is called because the call is different from the pitch of the owner. The anatomist also says that cats, dogs, and animals all have absolute pitch. How do you think of this theory?

カンガルーポー kangaroo paw

　花の名前の由来は、形がカンガルーの手に似ているからです。私は、カンガルーの手を近くで見たことがないので、似ているのかどうか分かりません。

　The name of this flower comes from the shape resembles a kangaroo's paw. But, I haven't seen it closely, so I'm not sure if it's similar.

オオカッコウアザミ flossflower

　花びらが細く長いので、花は髪を振り乱した頭のようにも見えます。

　Petals are thin and long, so the flowers have the appearance of a head with hair in disorder.

花葱(ハナネギ) Allium giganteum

　ハナネギは遠くから何回か鑑賞したことがありますが、今回は近くから観察することができました。

　I have seen allium giganteum a few times from a distance, but this time I was able to observe it closely.

ホワイト・スイート・バイオレット sweet white violet

　茎が葉の上に弧を描き、その先端の花がある構成が目を引きます。

　The stem has drawn an arc above the leaf, and the flower bloom at its end, this  composition attracts my attention.

雄羊歯(オシダ) crown wood-fern

　林の中には、放射状に葉を広げた大型の羊歯の群生があり、その数と大きさに圧倒されました。

　写真は背景に青緑の沼を入れたので、文章を表現したものではなくなりました。

　In the forest, crown wood-fern with radiating leaves grow in colonies. I was overwhelmed by the size and the number of them.

昼咲月見草(ヒルザキツキミソウ) showy evening primrose

　ヒルザキツキミソウは、昼間に咲いて２～３日はしぼみませんが、ツキミソウは、夕方から夜にかけて咲き、一晩で萎んでしまいます。

　日本では、ツキミソウとマツヨイグサは、よく混同されます。

　Showy evening primroses, or pinkladies, bloom in the daytime and do not wither for two or three days. On the other hand, evening primroses bloom from evening to night and wither overnight.

　In Japan, evening primrose and evening primrose are often confused.

小判草(コバンソウ) quaking grass

　穂はいくつかの節から構成されているので、柔軟に曲がります。植物というより節足動物のようです。

　The ears consist of several nodes, so that they bend flexibly. It appears to be an arthropod rather than a plant.

マリーゴールド marigold

　マリーゴールドの根から分泌する成分は、土中のセンチュウを激減させる効果があるそうです。また、独特の匂いを蚊が嫌うとも聞きますので、鉢植えを玄関に置きました。

　The ingredients secreted from the roots of marigolds are said to have the effect of drastically reducing nematodes in the soil. I also hear that mosquitoes dislike the unique smell, so I put a potted plant at the entrance of my house.

ブラシの木 bottle brush tree

　蕾の中には、花糸が固く巻かれて収まっています。それがまっすぐに伸びてブラシのようになります。そこには、何らかの意図があるようで生命の神秘を感じます。

　The filaments are tightly wound and contained inside the buds. Then they stretch straight and appear to be a brush. There seems to be some intent and I sense the mystery of life.

ズッキーニ zucchini

　ズッキーニの形はいろいろありますが、キュウリに似たものがよく知られています。また、食感はナスに似ています。ズッキーニが、カボチャの仲間なのは意外でしす。

　Some forms of zucchini exist, but those that look like cucumbers are well known. In addition, the texture is like eggplant. It was unexpected that it belonged to pumpkin family.

谷空木(タニウツギ) Weigela hortensis

　タニウツギは日本の固有種です。長く突き出た雌しべの先端は、白くて大きいので目立ちます。

　Weigela hortensis is endemic to Japan. The tip of the long protruding pistil is white and large, so it stands out.

紫蘭(シラン) urn orchid

　シランは、丈夫で繁殖力も旺盛なので、よく見かけます。

　We often see urn orchids, because of  its strength and fertility.

　マメグンバイナズナに似ていますが、果実の形が違うようにも思えます。

　It's similar to Virginia pepperweed, but it also seems to have a different fruit shape.

栃(トチノキ) horse chesnut

　以前、実を食べようとアク抜きを試みましたが、どうやってもエグみが残り断念しました。

　A few years ago, I tried to remove the lye from the fruits to eat, but I gave up because, no matter what, I can't remove the harshness.

金鎖(キングサリ) golden chain

　花の形はマメ科そのものですが、鮮やかな黄色が目を引きます。

　The shape of the flower is the legume itself, but the bright yellow color attracts attention.
