花びらが反り返って咲くダリアをはじめて見ました。

I saw the dahlia which has petals rolling back for the first time.

イチイの実 fruit of Japanese yew

イチイは被子植物なので、厳密に言えば果実をつけません。
赤い実に見える部分を下から覗くと、黒い種子が見えます。赤い部分は、少し粘り気があり、甘くて美味しいです。ところが、種の部分は猛毒なので注意が必要です。
自然界には、何と有毒な植物が多いことでしょう。

The yew is an angiosperm, so it does not bear fruit.
When we look in a red part from the bottom, we can see a black seed in it. The red part, arillus, is slightly sticky and it is sweet and delicious. However, attention is necessary because the seed is a deadly poison.

側溝の格子状カバーの間から、伸びてきたマルバナホロシです。

It is a Solanum maximowiczii which lengthened from the gaps of grating covers of the gutter.

強い日差し strong sunlight

花の撮影は、薄曇りが適していますが、強い日差しの下では、背景を暗くできるなどの楽しみもあります。

Slightly cloudy weather is suitable for taking a picture of a flower, however, there is also a pleasure under the strong sunlight, for example, we can darken the background.

ヨメナとミズヒキ aster yomena & persicaria filiformis

道端に、赤、白、黄色と緑が、重なり合っていました。

Red, white, yellow and green overlapped each other on the road side.

七変化 lantana

随分カラフルな花です。次第に花の色が変化するので、ランタナの日本語名は七変化です。

It is a very colorful flower. Because the color of the flower gradually changes, the meaning of the Japanese name of the lantana is "various changes".

白い空 white sky

以前、青い空をバックにコスモスを撮ったことを思い出しました。なんとか、その写真を見つけ出すことができました。

I recalled that I took a picture of cosmoses with the blue sky in the background few years ago. I was able to find out the picture somehow.

コウヤボウキ pertya scandens

高野山地方では、この茎を束ねて箒を作っていたので、この植物はコウヤボウキと名づけられました。

People of former days bundled up stems and made brooms at Kouya-san district. So this plant is called Kouya-Houki. Houki means a broom in Japanese.

ミョウガ mioga ginger

ミョウガを食べると馬鹿になるといわれますが、その根拠は何なのでしょう。
気がつけば、庭にミョウガの花が咲いていました。

They say the person who eat mioga ginger becomes stupid, but nobody knows the reason.
I noticed a flower of the mioga ginger has bloomed in my garden.

マダムバタフライ Mme. Butterfly

このバラ園では今日からバラの祭典が始まりますが、ほとんどのバラが咲いていません。気温の変化と剪定のタイミングが合わなかったのでしょうか。

The festival of roses begins today in this rosary, but most roses have not bloomed. Maybe the timing of the pruning did not match the change of the air temperature.

キキョウ balloon flower

キキョウの花の蕾は、花びらのふちが隣同士つながり、風船のように膨らんでいます。

Edge of a petal connects next to each other before a balloon flower opens. So the figure is like a balloon.

見かけなくなるもの about to disappear

この赤い郵便ポストは、1945年に導入された郵便差出箱1号（丸型）です。この古い形の郵便ボスとを、最近はほとんど見かけませんが、ここではまだ活躍していました。ボディに浮き上がる錆や重ね塗りされたペンキ、そしてまた、台座が石で作られていることには、古さを感じさせます。
左の公衆電話も、携帯電話が普及するに連れ、今後はその数を減らすことでしょう。

This red public mailbox, type1 (round shape), was introduced in 1945. I hardly see the old public mailbox recently, but it has been still working here. "The rust and repeated coating on the body" and "the stone pedestal" let me feel the oldness of the mailbox.
The spread of the cell phone also would decrease public telephones (left).

秋バラ rose in autumn

暑い夏も過ぎ、バラが咲き始めました。

Hot summer is gone, and roses have begun to bloom.

白熱電球 filament lamp

屋外で白熱電球を使用していたとき、空から一粒の雨粒が、電球の熱く熱せられた薄いガラスに落ちました。雨粒が一瞬に蒸発するとともに、ガラスに大きな穴が開きました。

When I used a filament lamp outdoors, one raindrop fell from the sky on the thin glass of the lanmp which became hot. The raindrop evaporated in a moment and made a big hole in glass.

丈夫なコスモス vital cosmos

歩く人もいない河原の遊歩道に倒れたコスモスが、沢山の美しい花をつけていました。コスモスは、見かけによらず丈夫な花です。

There was a fallen stem of the cosmos on the promenade of a riverside where persons seldom walk along. Many beautiful flowers bloomed to the stem. A cosmos is a vital plant in spite of the appearance.

蒲の穂 ear of cattail

串団子のような蒲の穂が生えていました。

An ear of cattail such as a skewer dumpling grew.

ススキ Japanese silver grass

ススキは、古くは屋根の材料にしたり、最近でもお月見のお供えにしたりと、日本人の生活に関わりが深い植物です。しかし、北米ではススキが侵略的外来種に分類されていると聞きました。

Japanese silver grass was used as material of roof in the old days and is used even now as an offering of the viewing the moon in autumn, so it is a familiar plant for a Japanese.
However, I heard that Japanese silver grass has been classified into an invasive alien species in North America.

ホオズキ Chinese lantern plant

草むらを歩いていると、突然ホオズキが。なんでこんな所に生えているのでしょう。

Chinese lantern plant appeared suddenly when I was rambling on grass. I wondered why this plant grew in such a place.

田んぼとヒガンバナ rice paddy and cluster amaryllises

田んぼのふちにヒガンバナが少し咲いていました。
昔の人は、ネズミやモグラから稲を守るため、畦に有毒なヒガンバナを植えました。その名残と思われます。
最近は、ネズミやモグラよりイノシシの被害が著しくなり、イノシシよけの電気牧柵を見かけることが多くなりました。

Some cluster-amaryllises bloomed in the edge of the rice field.
The old person planted a toxic cluster-amaryllis in the edge of the rice field to protect rice from a mouse and a mole. It seems to be the trace of the old custom.
The damage of the wild boar became more terrible than mouse and mole and came to often see the electric fence which prevents the invasion of the wild boar recently.

ミズヒキソウ Persicaria filiformis

沢山の手足を使って、這い上がっていくように見えます。

With many hands and feet, it seems to crawl up.

オクラ okra

去年は庭で育てましたが、日本では越冬できません。
果実は美味しいおかずになるので、来年は育てようと思います。

I cultivated okra last year in my garden, but it cannot pass the winter in Japan.
I will bring it up next year because the fruit is good for accompanying dish.

アオツヅラフジ cocculus trilobus

花は今ひとつですが、果実には雰囲気があります。

The flower is not good enough, but the appearance of the fruit has a good atmosphere.

仙人草のヒゲ barbs of sweet-autumn-clematis

実から放射状に伸びるヒゲが、回転体を思わせる曲線を描いています。
2017年8月23日の記事に、仙人草の花の写真が載っています。

Each barb growing from a fruit radially draws a curve which suggests a  rotation.
