リョウブは、飢饉のときの非常食になる木でした。新芽と花は美味しくないけれど、食べられるそうです。樹皮が薄く剥がれ滑らかな表面になるので、見分けやすいです。

オカトラノオ loosestrife
房のような形になった沢山の花は、下方から咲きます。先端の花が咲く頃は、根本側の花は萎れています。同時に咲けばよいのに、何が咲く順序を決めているのでしょうか。

ハナイカダ Helwingia japonica
2m位の高さまで、スッと伸びた緑の茎に目が止まり、近寄るとハナイカダの木でした。しばしば、里山でハナイカダを見かけますが、このように見上げて透過光で見るのは初めてです。
I noticed a shrub had light green stems growing up straight to around 2m high. I approached it and found it was a Helwingia japonica. I often see a Helwingia japonica at the village-vicinity mountain, but this is the first time I look up and watch in transmitted light.
