ノウゼンカズラ trumpet creeper

　藤と同じように蔓にしては幹が太く、見るからに丈夫でエネルギーたっぷりに見える植物です。花は次々に咲きますが、個々の花は意外に短命です。

　葉の間から上に突き出た花茎に、独特の形の花がついている大変目立つ植物です。葉の形は装飾デザインに利用されます。

　ウリカエデの木肌は、特に若木の時は瓜の表面のように緑色でなめらかです。この皮は切り口から指で簡単に剥がすことができます。剥がすと水分でびっしょり濡れた白色のなめらかな材が現れます。

　この水分は、もしかしてメイプルシロップのように甘いのではないかと思いましたが、無色無臭で味はありませんでした。
