ハンゲショウ Chinese lizard's tail

　花の近くの葉が白くなるのは、受粉を担う虫を呼ぶためだといわれています。花の開花時に、葉緑素が生成されないようにして、その目的を達成するそうです。どうしてそんなことができるのでしょう。神秘的ですね。

　They say that the reason the leaves turn white around the flowers is to attract pollinating insects. It is said that it seems to achieve its purpose by preventing the production of chlorophyll during flowering. How could they do such a thing? It is mysterious.

房藤空木（フサフジウツギ）butterfly bush

　甘い香りに惹かれ、蝶がフサフジウツギに集まるといわれますが、今日は蜂が集まっていました。英名からも、蝶がこの花を好むことがうかがわれます。

　この植物はフサフジウツギという、よい和名を持っているのですが、ブットレアと学名で呼ばれることが普通のようです。

　It is said that butterflies are attracted to Butterfly bush by its sweet fragrance, but today bees were gathering. The English name suggests that butterflies like the flowers.

　It has a Japanese name which makes a good impression, but it seems common to call it the scientific name Buddleja.

ニゲラのさく果 capsule of love-in-a-mist

　ニゲラのさく果は、なんだか怪しげですが、惹きつけるものがあります。好きと嫌いの感情は、脳の別の場所で認識するため、正反対の感情が同居できるそうです。

　ニゲラの葉は、糸のように細くトゲトゲしいのですが、触ってみると柔らかいので痛くはありません。

　このさく果から種を採取して、庭に蒔こうと思っています。

　capsule of love-in-a-mist are somewhat dubious, but they are fascinating. They say that likes and dislikes emotions are recognized in different parts of the brain, so that opposite emotions can exist together.

　Love-in-a-mist leaves are thin as threads and spiny, but they are soft to the touch and do not hurt.

　I'm thinking of collecting seeds from this capsule and sowing them in my garden.

鉄線(テッセン) clematis

　テッセンの花びらに見える部分は、実は萼で花びらはありません。また、ボール状になった果実の形も独特ですね。

　The part that looks like the petal of clematis is actually calyx and there is no petal. The ball-shaped fruit is also unique.

カンナ Canna

　そろそろカンナの花が咲き始める時期ですが、葉だけでも十分な存在感があります。

　It is about time that the flowers of the Canna start to bloom, but the leaves alone have a nice presence.

紫御殿(ムラサキゴテン) purple heart plant

　ムラサキゴテンは、葉が緑色でなく紫色をした普通とは異なる植物です。メキシコ地方原産のツユクサの仲間で有毒です。

　Purple heart (plant) is an unusual plant which leaves are purple instead of green. It is a member of the Commelina genus native to the Mexican region and is toxic.

サルビア Salvia

　サルビアには色々な種類があります。多分これは、サルビア　ファリナセア　ストラータだと思います。

　There are many Salvia species. I think this is probably Salvia farinacea strata.
