君子蘭(クンシラン) Kaffir lily

　クンシランはヒガンバナ科の植物ですが、名前に蘭が付いています。英名でも名前に、別の科の植物であるユリが付いています。

　日本では、昔に外国から持ち込まれた珍しい植物の名前には、蘭が付け加えられる事もあったそうです。

　そろそろ我が家の庭に、鈴蘭が咲きますが、この植物も蘭科ではありません。

　Kaffir lily is a plant in the Amaryllidaceae family, but it has an orchid in its name. The English name also includes the word lily, which is a separate family of plants.

　In Japan, orchid was sometimes added to the names of rare plants brought from abroad in the past.

　My garden is about to see the blooming of bell orchids, but this plant is not a member of the orchid family either.

キランソウ ajuga reptans

　蘭の花に似ていますが、キク科の植物です。いろいろな薬効があると言われています。その効果のひとつに、すりつぶした液体を肩に塗ると、こりが治るそうです。でも、肌が荒れたりしないか心配です。

　This flower has the appearance of an orchid, but it belongs to the Asteraceae family. I've been told that this plant has various medicinal benefits. If you use ground liquid on your shoulders, you could reduce stiffness. However, I am worried about if it causes skin problems.

大甘菜(オオアマナ) Star of Bethlehem

　抜いても抜いても、庭にはびこる厄介な多年草です。

　It's a troublesome perennial that run riot in my garden, no matter how I remove it.

紅葉(モミジ) maple tree

　紅色と緑のグラディエーションを楽しめるモミジを、春には見ることができます。

　You can enjoy maple leaves with a gradation of red and green in spring.

ムスカリ grape hyacinth

　あるレストランの駐車場の脇に、まばらにムスカリが咲いていました。群生すると存在感がぐっと増す花なのになぁ。

　Grape hyacinths were blooming sparsely on the side of a restaurant's parking lot. However, I think that the presence of this flower is greatly enhanced when it is grown in clusters.

石楠花(シャクナゲ) Rhododendron

　シャクナゲの花は、ツツジの花が集まって咲いたように見えます。

　Rhododendron flowers have the appearance of a combination of multiple azalea flowers.

ミツマタ Oriental paperbush

　ネギ坊主の天ぷらは美味しいです。ミツマタの花は、ネギ坊主に少し似ているようにも思えます。そのせいでしょうか、ミツマタの花も天ぷらにすると、ちょっと美味しそうな雰囲気があります。食べる人はいないと思いますが、この植物にはクマリンという毒素を含みますので、食べることはできません。

　Leek flower head tempura is delicious. I think the flowers of oriental paperbush are a little similar to leek flower head. I wonder if it is the cause of this. If you make the oriental paperbush flower tempura, it looks a little delicious. I think no one would eat it, but this plant contains a toxin called coumarin, so it is not edible.
