イノシシの肉を用いた鍋料理を牡丹鍋といいます。猪肉を薄切りにし、牡丹の花に似せて皿に盛りつけるので牡丹鍋と呼ばれます。
"Botannabe" (wild boar stew) means food served in a pot using the thin sliced meat of the wild boar. The meat is arranged in a bowl as like as petals of peony, so it is called "Botannabe". In Japanese, a peony is called "botan" and a bowl is called "nabe".
