東京山椒魚 Tokyo salamander

毎年、東京山椒魚の卵を見つけますが、これほど多く見るのは初めてです。卵の中に、時々動く幼生が見えます。
大人の山椒魚は、夜行性のため見たことはありません。

I find eggs of Tokyo salamander every year, but this is the first time I saw such a lot of eggs at a time.
I saw larvae occasionally moving inside the egg.
I have never seen an adult Tokyo salamander, because it is inactive at daytime.

ボタン peony

花弁の数が少なく花びらの大きなボタンが咲いていました。雨に打たれると惨めな風情になるのではと心配になります。

A peony has bloomed. It has a small number of petals and the petal is big like a rose mallow. I worry that it becomes the wretched taste when beaten in the rain.

ホウチャクソウ Disporum sessile

邪気のないたたずまいですが、人にとっては有毒植物です。
ちぎると変な匂いがして、その毒性をほのめかすといわれますが、それほど臭くはありません。
バックのオレンジ色は、ヤマツツジです。

It has innocent air, but is a poisonous plant to human.
It is said that when this plant was torn off, it smells strange like poison, but actually the smell is not so awful.
Orange background is Rhododendron kaempferi.

カキドウシ alehoof

空き地にも川原にも、あちこちに群生している草です。小さいのであまり目立ちません。乾燥させたものは、ダイエット茶として、結構な値段で販売されています。安全性は確認されていません。

It is gregarious plants growing in colonies in many places, the vacant land and the river bank etc.. It doesn't attract our attention so much, because it is small grass. The dried grass is sold at a good price as herbal diet tea. But safety is unconfirmed.

カツラの林 forest of Japanese Judas tree

落葉高木では、ブナの木の人気が高いですが、カツラの木もまた魅力的です。新緑の前には、皮目が樹上部分を赤く薄っすら染め、また秋になると、丸い葉が良い香りを放ちます。

The Fagaceae is the most popular tree among tall deciduous trees in Japan, but the Japanese Judas tree is attractive too. Its lenticel dyes a top part of it in light red before the season of fresh green. And round leaf gives off a fragrance in autumn.

ツツジ azalea

ツツジは本来、沢山の花をつけますが、今年は花が少なく、そして例年より早く咲きました。

The azalea is a plant which produces many flowers, but there are not many flowers on it this year and it bloomed earlier than usual.

アケビ chocolate vine

アケビの花の色はもっと濃かったと記憶していますが、自生のアケビは薄い色なのでしょうか。

I remember that a color of chocolate vine flower was darker than this, but maybe a wild chocolate vine is a light color.

チューリップ tulip

子供の頃、童謡の「チューリップ」をよく歌ったので、チューリップには親しみを感じます。

The nursery rhyme "tulip" is very familiar to most Japanese.

カンアオイ asarum nipponicum

何これ？　泥にまみれたカンアオイです。花という概念を打ち砕きます。

What's this? It is a flower of Asarum nipponicum covered with mud. It smashes my image of the flower.

オニグルミ Japanese walnut

枝から垂れ下がる雄花は、芋虫のように見えます。一方、赤くて可愛い雌花は、小さく遠くからは目立ちません。

The male flower hanging down from a branch looks like a worm. On the other hand, the red charming female flower is small and is not easy to see from a distance.

スミレ violet

スミレは種類が多くあるので、私には同定が難しいです。これは、多分タチツボスミレだと思います。ここは日当たりが良い場所なので、育つには厳しそうですが、元気に咲いています。

There are a lot of types to violet, so identification is difficult for me. But I think this is probably Viola grypoceras.
This sunny place seems severe for these violets, but they are blooming beautifully.

盆栽 bonsai

それはそれで美しいのですが、私は自然のなかでの生命力を楽しみたいです。

Bonsai has its beauty, but I prefer to enjoy the creature's spirit in nature.

イカリソウ fairy wings

イカリソウの名前の由来は、花の形が、船の錨に似ていることからこの名がついたということです。私は残念ながら船の錨がどんな形をしているのか知りません。漫画では、船の錨を見たことがありますが、ずっと単純な形をしていました。

The name of this plant means anchor of a ship in Japanese. But unfortunately, I don't know the form of a real anchor of a ship. I have seen the form on a cartoon before, but it was more simple.

ニリンソウ soft windflower

流れ沿ってニリンソウが生えていました。春は、寒い冬から暖かくなるので、喜ばしいでのですが、強い風が吹くのが困りものです。

Along the stream soft windflower grows.
Spring is a good season because it becomes warm from cold winter, but there is trouble that strong wind blows occasionally.

ヨゴレネコノメソウ "yogore-nekonome-sou"

この植物の名前は、ヨゴレネコノメソウといいますが、私は犬派なので、この花のどこが、ネコの目に似ているのか分かりません。

The Japanese name of this plant means "dirty eyes of a cat". I can not understand what part of this flower resembles the eyes of a cat, because I am a dog person.

ミツバツツジ Rhododendron dilatatum

一株だけ開花が遅れていました。なぜでしょう。

Only one Rhododendron dilatatum was behind with flowering. I'm wondering why.

チオノドグサ glory of the snow

学名の"chionodoxa" が、そのまま呼び名になっている高山植物です。
学名の由来は、ギリシャ語のchion（雪）とdoxa（輝）から作られた造語です。

In Japan, the plant is called by the name same as scientific name "Chionodoxa". It is an alpine plant.
The origin of the scientific name is a coined word made from chion (meaning snow) and doxa (meaning glory) of the Greek.

ムスカリ grape hyacinth

傾けることができるファインダーのカメラを使うと、地面近くに咲く花を容易に撮影できます。
視点を変えると、時に新たな発見があります。


I can easily photograph a flower blooming near the ground, when I use the camera which has a tilting viewfinder.
There is sometimes new discovery when I change a viewpoint.

オダマキ columbine

オダマキは交配種を作りやすい植物なので、色々な園芸種が作られています。

A columbine has many garden varieties, because it produces a hybrid  easily.

気分のよい散歩道 a pleasant trail

ほんの短い区間ですが、気分の良い道です。

I can walk pleasantly on this trail, but it is only a short span.

コチャルメルソウ Mitella pauciflora

花の概念を越えた形をしています。生物の形や色は、どのようにして決まったのか興味のある所です。

The form of this flower is beyond my imagination. I'm interested in how the form and the color of the creature were determined.

食べ時 best timing for eating

これは我が家の庭に育つタラの芽です。あまり大きくなる前に食するのが、アクの旨味を楽しむ秘訣です。

This is a bud of the Aralia elata of my garden. It is the secret that we eat it before becoming so big to taste special flavor.

ヒマラヤユキノシタ Himalayan creeping saxifrage

この花のことを、ずっとユキノシタだと思っていましたが、実は、これはヒマラヤユキノシタで、ユキノシタは別の植物だと、今回教えていただきました。

I had thought that this flower is a strawberry geranium, but someone taught me at this time that this is a Himalayan creeping saxifrage.

オオシマザクラ oshimazakura

ソメイヨシノに遅れて見頃を迎えた、オオシマザクラです。
この葉は、塩漬けにすると良い香りがするので、この機会に初めて、自分でもやってみようと思います。

Oshimazakura became in full bloom later than someiyoshino.
Salted sakura leaves of oshimazakura have a pleasant aroma. I intend to try it myself for the first time at this opportunity.

漂う花びら drifting petals

湖面に浮かぶソメイヨシノの花びらです。
湖面に黄緑色に映る大きな木はケヤキです。

Drifting petals on the surface of a pond is someiyoshino's.
The big tree reflected in the yellow green on the surface of a pond is a zelkova.

春の色 nature shows signs of spring

何色に春を感じるかは、人それぞれでしょうが、日本人はピンク系の色と答える人が多いいようです。

What color do you feel spring? It depends on each individual person. As for Japanese, there seem to be many people who will answer pink.

ひょろ長い桜 lanky cherry trees

窪地に植えられて、ひょろ長く伸びた桜です。

These are lanky cherry trees planted in the hollow.

それほどの老木ではないのですが、要の枝が折れてしまい、全体として寂しい風情になりました。でも、枝の先を見れば、往年の輝きを保っています。

It is not so aged tree, but a main branch was broken, so it has a gray  atmosphere as a whole. But the point of the branch still keeps the former brightness.

土手の花見 flower viewing at bank

川の土手には、桜がよく植えられています。これは、花見客が大勢来ると土手が踏み固められ、防災上の効果があるからだそうです。先人の知恵です。

In Japan, it is common cherry trees are planted on a bank. Many flower viewing visitors tread the bank down, so the bank becomes strong. This has an effect in the disaster prevention. It is an ancient wisdom.

ハナモモ Hana peach

サクラの花と同時期に咲くハナモモです。花の色は、赤、桃色、白、紅白咲き分けと色々です。

This is the Hana peach which blooms the same period as a cherry tree.
The color of the flower is various such as red, pink and white. And it is intriguing that there is a tree which has red flowers and white flowers on it.
