紅蜀葵(モミジアオイ) scarlet rosemallow

　この花は、ハイビスカスによく似ていますが、葉弁の根本が細いのでモミジアオイですね。葉の形は、モミジに似ています。

　This flower is very similar to hibiscus, but it is scarlet rosemallow because the base of the petals is narrower than hibiscus. The shape of the leaves resembles the shape of a maple.

アカツメクサ red clover

　アカツメクサの原産地はヨーロッパ です。日本には牧草としてつたわりました。今では、野生化して日本の各地で見ることができます。

　It is native to Europe and was brought to Japan as a pasture. Nowadays it is wild and can be seen throughout Japan.

ブルーカール trichostema dichotomum

　ブルーカールは、長くてカールした雄しべに特徴があります。この写真では、ちょっと見にくいですね。

　このシソ科の植物は、米国中西部と東部、カナダ東部、およびバハマに分布しており、日本ではあまり見かることはありません。

　Trichostema dichotomum are characterized by long-curled stamens. It's a bit difficult to see in this photo.

　It is a flowering plant in the mint family found in the Midwestern and Eastern United States, Eastern Canada, and the Bahamas. It is hardly seen in Japan.

藪萱草(ヤブカンゾウ) daylily

　ヤブカンゾウは、中国原産のユリ科の植物です。私には、ちょっと重い感じの花です。私のために咲いているわけではないことは、十分承知しています。

　The daylily is a plant of the Lily family native to China. It feels a little heavy to me. However, I fully understand that it's not blooming for me.

薮茗荷(ヤブミョウガ) pollia

　沢山の小さな白い花が、茎の上部に段々状になって咲いています。

　Many small white flowers are blooming in a few stages on the upper part of the stalk.

竹 bamboo

　小さな流れのそばで、しなやかに伸びるこの竹の種類は女竹ではないかと思います。

　I think this bamboo is Simon bamboo because it is growing by a brook and bends lithely.

塩辛蜻蛉(シオカラトンボ) common skimmer

　雄と雌で体の色が大きく異るトンボです。写真はオスでシオカラトンボと呼ばれます。メスは黄色を基調とした体色で、ムギワラトンボと呼ばれます。

　This is a dragonfly with a body color that differs greatly between males and females. The photo is male and is called "shiokara-dragonfly" in Japanese. "Shiokara" means salted fish guts, because old male body is dredged with gray powder like salt. Females have a yellow-based body and are called "mugiwara-dragonfly". "Mugiwara" means straw.

姫檜扇水仙(ヒメヒオウギズイセン) crocosmia

　ヒメヒオウギズイセンは、生命力が強く世界中に野生化して分布しています。小川のそばや湿気の多い場所で見つけることができます。

　Crocosmia has strong vital power and is distributed as a wild plant all over the world. It can be found beside streams and in damp areas.

 

アルストロメリア lily of the Incas

　しばらく前から通り道に咲いていました。いつも先を急ぐので撮影は延び延びになっていました。開花期間は長いようです。

　I noticed that it was blooming on the usual path a few weeks ago. As I was always in a hurry, the shooting had been postponed. It looks like a long flowering period.

ホソバウンラン yellow toadflax

　見かけによらず丈夫で繁殖力が強く、年々コロニーを増やしています。

　It is fertile despite of appearance, and the area of its colony is increasing year after year.

ヤマモモ red bayberry

　数年前に、ヤマモモで果実酒を作りましたが、私の好みには合いませんでした。やはり、梅酒が一番、ドクダミ酒が二番です。

　A few years ago, I made fruit wine from red bayberry, but it didn't suit my taste. After all Ume wine is the best, and Doku-dami, or Houttuynia cordata, is the second for me.

藤の豆果 Japanese wisteria pod

　今年は例年になくフジの花が沢山綺麗に咲きました。

　小さなカメラは、意図せず指がボタンに触れ、モードが変わることがあります。この写真はいつの間にか、針穴写真機モードになっていたカメラで撮られたものです。梅雨の雰囲気がかえって出たかも知れません。

　Many Japanese wisteria flowers bloomed beautifully as never before this year.

　The shooting mode of small cameras could be changed when a finger unintentionally touches a button. This photo was taken with a camera set to pinhole camera mode without my noticing. This mistake may have raised the atmosphere of the rainy season.

クリスマスブッシュ

　初夏に咲く植物の名前に、クリスマスが冠されているのはどうしてでしょう。クリスマスブッシュは、南半球のオーストラリア原産ということで納得しました。

　Why is Christmas associated with the name of the plant that blooms in early summer? I see! Christmas Bush originated in Australia "in the Southern Hemisphere."

スカエボラ scaevola aemula

　ブルーファンフラワーと呼ばれる紫紅色(しこうしょく)の種類もありますが、この花の色は白です。オーストラリア原産の宿根草です。

　There is also another type whose color is violet-red flower, called a blue fan flower, but this flower is white. It is a perennial that comes from Australia.

グラジオラス gladiolus

　遠くの墓地になった丘に、グラジオラスらしい赤いものが見えたので、行ってみると、案の定、グラジオラスでした。グラジオラスは特徴のある姿をしています。

　On the cemetery hill in the distance, I saw a thing red like gladiolus. I went there and I found a gladiolus as expected. Gladiolus looks very distinctive.

サルビア・ガラニチカ anise-scented sage

　葉は見るからにハーブそのもので、触れば強い香りがしますが、香りより紫の花を楽しむ植物です。

　The leaves are apparently herbs, and although they exhale a strong scent when you touch them, they are plants that would be enjoyed with purple flowers rather than scents.

クリナム Crinum

　知らない花ですが、クリナムの仲間だと思います。

　見ているとなんだか、花は動きだしそうです。

　I don't know the flower, but I believe it's one of Crinum's members.

　When I watch it, I feel like the flower is about to move.

アナベル Annabelle hydrangea

　昨日投稿したヘイズスターバースト hayes starburstの一重咲き版です。

　広い場所がアナベルで埋め尽くされる光景は圧巻です（写真とは異なります）。

　This is the single-flowered version of Hayes starburst hydrangea posted yesterday.

　The view of a large area full of Annabel is wonderful (different to this photo).

ヘイズスターバースト hayes starburst

　ヘイズスターバーストは、アナベルの八重咲き品種ですが、アナベルに比べるとあまり見る機会はありません。

　ふわふわとボリュームのある花房は、シロップのかかっていないかき氷のようにも見えます。

　Haze Starburst is a double-flowered variety from Annabelle hydrangea, but not as well known as Annabel here.

　The fluffy and voluminous inflorescences look like shaved ice, or a snow cone, with no syrup.

黄色いゆり yellow lily

　朱色から黄色へのグラデーションが美しいユリです。

　A lily with a beautiful gradation from vermilion to yellow.

ホワイトエンジェル hydrangea white-angel

　ホワイトエンジェルはガクアジサイです。中央の小さな両性花の集まりに周りに、長い花柄の先に八重咲きの装飾花が数少なくついています。その姿は、線香花火が火花を散らす光景を連想させます。

　White Angel is lacecap Hydrangea. Around the gathering of small hermaphrodite flowers in the center, there are small amount double-flowered ornamental flower at the tip of a long flower stalk. Its appearance reminds me of  the sight of sparkling firework.

石榴(ザクロ) pomegranate

　厚くてかたい萼から、薄くて柔らかい花弁がせり出ていました。八重ザクロには実がつかないと言われています。多くのおしべが花弁に変化しているからだそうです。でも、中を見ると、花の奥にはたくさんの雄しべがひしめいていました。

　Thin and soft petals have emerged out from the thick and hard calyx. It is said that double-petaled pomegranate does not bear fruit. This is because many stamens have turned petals. But when I looked inside, there were a lot of stamens at the bottom of the flower.

　名前が記号の植物はめずらしいです。なんだか、遺伝子工学で作り出された感じがします。

　I think the plants whose names are alphanumeric are rare. I wonder as if it have been created by genetic engineering.

アジサイ タウベ Hydrangea Taube

　タウベはガクアジサイです。ガクアジサイは、英語でレースキャップというそうですが、このレースという意味はテキスタイルtextileのレースのことなのでしょうか。

　Taube is a lace-cap hydrangea. I wonder if the meaning of this lace in lace-cap mean textile lace.
