昨日は、風が強くて鯉のぼりの綱が切れたそうです。

I heard that the rope of the carp-shaped streamer was cut by strong wind yesterday.

May 5th has been Children's Day since ancient times, and all family members　eat traditional rice cakes to celebrate the boy. People raise the carp-shaped streamers called "koi-nobori", and display a suit of armor and a helmet as ornament.

黄冠（牡丹） oukan (peony)

黄冠は、遅咲きの牡丹です。日本で作出されましたが、見かけることは少ないです。

Oukan is a late-blooming peony.  It was created in Japan, but it is a still rare species.

牡丹と芍薬 botan & syakuyaku

日本では"ボタン"と"芍薬"を区別しますが、英語ではどちらも"peony"で両者を区別しません。私も花だけを見て、両者を区別することは難しいです。区別の秘訣は、葉を見ることです。
ジャンルを問わず、分類学は難しいです。

We distinguish "Botan" and "Syakuyaku" in Japanese language, but both are  "peony" in English. It is difficult for me to distinguish each other by seeing only flowers. The secret to distinguish is to observe a leaf.
Regardless of a field, the taxonomy is difficult.

オーロラ（牡丹） aurora (peony)

花びらが燃え上がる火炎のようで、華麗な牡丹です。オーロラは、フランスで作出された牡丹の栽培種です。

The petals are like the flame which flare up,  and make a flower splendid. The Aurora is a cultivation species of a peony created in France.

麟鳳(リンポウ) rinbou

麟鳳は、優雅で大輪の牡丹です。牡丹の花には、いろいろな色がありますが、牡丹色と言えば、このリンボウの深みのある紫色を指します。

These are large graceful peonies named Rinbou. The peony has various colors, but "the color of a peony" means this deep purple.

鬱金桜 Ukonzakura(cherry tree)

鬱金桜の花の色は淡黄緑色ですが、終盤を迎えて赤みを増しました。
鬱金桜と普賢象、御衣黄は、それぞれよく似た花をつける桜です。

The flower color of Ukonzakura is a moderate yellow with a greenish tinge. However, flowers reached the last stage and added to a red tendency.
Ukonzakura, Fukenzou and Gioiko are cultivated species of cherry trees which produce similar flowers.
