虫取り撫子(ムシトリナデシコ) catchfly

この植物の名前は、食虫植物を連想させる名前ですが、ムシトリナデシコは、食虫植物ではありません。茎に粘着性の分泌液を出すだけです。触ってみましたが、想像したほど強い粘着力はありませんでした。

The name of this plant reminds you that it a carnivorous plant, but this plant, catchfly, is not a carnivorous plant. It just puts out a sticky secretion on the stem. When I touched it, I felt a weak  adhesive force.

レディエマハミルトン lady emma hamilton

同じ株に咲く2つの花ですが、手前はオレンジ色で、奥のは少しピンクがかっています。

These two flowers bloomed on the same plant, but the one in the front was orange in color and another one was slightly pink.

雉子(キジ) green pheasant

日頃、オスのキジはときどき見かけるのですが、つがいを見る機会はあまりありません。
望遠レンズを持っていれば、良い写真が撮れたのですが。

I often encounter a wild male green pheasant, but there are not many opportunities to look at a couple.
If I had brought a telephoto lens, I could have gotten in some good shots.

麦仙翁(ムギセンノウ) corn cockle

風にそよぐ姿を写したかったのですが、三脚を持っていなかったので諦めました。

I wanted to take a picture of the flowers rustle in the wind, but I didn't have a tripod so I gave up.

破れ傘(ヤブレガサ) shredded umbrella

葉の形が、破れ傘を連想させます。
最近の傘は丈夫でめったに破れたりしません。骨は、時に折れますけれど。

The shape of the leaves is reminiscent of a shredded umbrella.
Today's umbrellas are durable and rarely tear. Sometimes a bone of an umbrella will break, though.

胡蝶花(シャガ) Iris Japonica

シャガは三倍体の植物だから、全てのシャガは同一の遺伝子、つまりクローンですが、このシャガはちょっと違う特徴があります。

Since the Iris Japonica is a triploid plant, all Iris Japonica have the same gene (i.e., clone), but the characteristics of this Iris Japonica are slightly different.

カルミア kalmia

カルミアは、スプーンの木とも呼ばれます。
くぼんだ花の形からそう呼ばれるのかと思っていましたが、実は、アメリカインディアンが、カルミアの根を材料に、スプーンを作っていたからでした。

Kalmia is also called a spoon tree.
I was wondering if it was called so because of the concave flower shape, but in fact, it was because American Indians used the roots of Kalmia to make spoons.
