小紫式部(コムラサキシキブ) purple beautyberry

コムラサキシキブの紫色の実は、よく目立ちます。鳥に食べてもらい種を運んで貰うためでしょうか。

The Purple fruits of purple beautyberry really stand out. I suppose this is so that the seeds get eaten and carried by birds.

藤袴(フジバカマ) thoroughwort

フジバカマは、秋の七草の一つです。
小学校の頃に、どんな花かも知らずに、七草の名前を一生懸命暗記しました。
今では、七草のそれぞれ花と名前が一致しました。

秋の七草：萩、尾花(ススキ)、葛、撫子、オミナエシ、藤袴、桔梗

Thoroughwort is one of the seven autumn herbs.
When I was in elementary school, I tried hard to memorize the names of the seven herbs without knowing what kind of flowers they were.
Now I know each flowers and their names.

the autumn herbs : bush clover, Japanese pampas grass, kudzu, dianthus, patrinia scabiosaefolia, thoroughwort, balloon flower

白い彼岸花 white cluster amaryllis

白と言うには黄色っぽいですが、朱色の彼岸花と黄色の彼岸花を交配してできたものが、この白い彼岸花と言われています。

絵の具の混ぜ合わせと、遺伝子の交配による色の出方が異なるのは興味深いです。

It is said white cluster amaryllis but I think it is pale yellow. This cluster amaryllis is said to have been made by cross-fertilization of vermilion with yellow.
The difference in color produced by the mixture of paints and the result of genetic mating is interesting.

百日草(ジニア) zinnia

百日以上と長く咲くジニアですが、そろそろ花は終わりになります。

The Japanese name for zinnia means that flowering lasts 100 days. The zinnia is about to end.

枯れたケイトウ withered plumed cockscomb

花持ちの良いケイトウも、いよいよ枯れてきましたが、それでもなお、風情を感じます。

The long-lived plumed cockscomb has finally withered, but I feel still some sort of atmosphere.

胡麻 sesame

子供の頃、炒ったゴマをよくすったものですが、最近は植物のゴマをすった記憶がありません。

I used to grind grilled sesame seeds when I was a child, but recently I haven't grinded the seeds.

マリーゴールド marigold

マリーゴールドを植えると、その強い匂いを嫌い、蚊がよってこないと聞きました。来シーズンは植えてみようと思います。そう言えばマリーゴールドは、蚊取り線香の原料である除虫菊と同じキク科の植物です。

I heard that when you plant marigolds, mosquitoes don't like the strong smell and don't come near, therefor I will plant it next season in my place. By the way, Marigold is a plant of the Asteraceae family, which is the same as pyrethrum the raw material for mosquito coils.
