箒だち broom's upside down

　サンシュユの木が、箒立ちに咲いています。

　Cornus is blooming as if it is  "houki-dachi. The tree that spreads radially is called "houki-dachi" in Japanese.

花びらと萼 petal VS. calyxe

　花びらと萼はそれぞれ役割分担があるはずですが、萼が花びらに見える花は数多くあります。レンテンローズもその一つです。この写真の中央の萼の中は空っぽで、花は既に終わっていますが、まだ咲いているように見えます。

花桃(ハナモモ) peach blossom

　梅と桜の開花期の中間に咲く花桃です。

　梅も桜も桃もバラ科なので、どの花もよく似ています。違いは、梅の花びらは先端が丸く、桜は割れ目があり、桃は尖っています。

　It is a peach blossom that blooms between the flowering period of Japanese apricots and cherry blossoms.

　Japanese apricots, cherry blossoms and peach blossoms are all from the rosacea family, so all the flowers are very similar. There are following differences: Japanese apricot petals have rounded tips, cherry blossoms have cracks, and peach blossoms have sharp tips.

レンテンローズ lenten rose

　八重咲きの赤紫の花と一重の薄緑の花が、隣同士にお互いを引き立てるように咲いていました。

　Double-flowered red-purple and single-petaled light green were blooming side by side to enhance each other.

桜はまだ cherry blossoms follow ume

　梅は見頃ですが、左側の枝垂れ桜は、まだ蕾が固い状態です。

　「梅は咲いたか、桜はまだかいな」、ご存知、江戸時代に流行した唄の冒頭の歌詞です。梅はもう咲いたけど、桜はいつ咲くのかと、待ちわびる気持ちが伝わってきますね。

　The ume, Japanese apricot, is in full bloom, but the buds of the weeping cherry tree on the left are still hard.

　"Ume has bloomed, but cherry blossoms haven't yet?" This lyrics at the beginning of a song that was popular in the Edo period. I can see the long waiting feeling of when the cherry blossoms will bloom.

　なんだ、これは！

　昔、この地方は養蚕業が盛んでした。カイコの天敵はネズミ、ネズミの天敵は蛇、その蛇を守り神として崇めたのでしょう。

　我が家の納屋から、蛇の抜け殻が見つかったとき、父親から、粗末に扱うなと言われた、遠い昔のことを思い出しました。

The natural enemy of the silk moth is the mouse, the mouse's natural predator is the snake, therefore the snake is believed to have been worshiped as the guardian deity.

　When I found a snake shell in my storage barn, I remembered my father told me I shouldn't desecrate it. It was many decades ago.

　次第に暖かくなり、ハチも活動を開始しました。ヒュウガミズキは甘いですか。

　It's getting warmer by little and little, bees started to work. Is the buttercup winter-hazel sweet?
