進むべきか戻るべきか to keep going or to come back

　道端になにかあると近寄ってみると、お気の毒、干からびたカエルでした。

　進むべきか戻るべきか。戻らなかったのが敗因でしたね。でも、戻れない事情でも何かあったのかなぁ。

　When I found something on the side of the road, I approached, and it was a poor, dry frog. Should he/she have moved forward or backward? It was its  fault that it didn't go back. However, maybe there was a reason why it couldn't come back.

編笠百合(アミガサユリ) fritillary

　花びらの内側に、黒紫色の少し不気味な網目模様があります。

　もう少し下から撮った方が、特徴を描写できたと思います。

　This flower has a slightly eerie black-purple mesh pattern inside the petals.

　To characterize this flower, it would have been better to shoot from a little further lower. 

コノテガシワ Chinese Arborvitae

　沢山の橙色は雌花と分かりますが、茶と鼠色からなるモノはなんだか分かりません。

　識者の方から、熟して裂開した実と種子（すでに落ちているかも？）と教えていただきました。また、一部に雄花も見えることも教えていただきました。

　I know that lots of orange flowers are female flowers, but I don't know what brown and gray things are.

　A knowledgeable person told me that there are ripe and splintered fruit and seeds, perhaps seeds have already fallen. I was also told that male flowers can be seen in some of them.

カラザ chalaza

　卵を割ると、白いひだのついたティッシュのようなものが、白身の中にありました。翼の成長が始まったかとも思いましたが、無精卵だからそんなはずはありません。

　卵黄を卵の中で固定するカラザと呼ばれるものがあります。白身の中にあるあの白い糸状のものです。そのカラザが異常に発達したものかも知れませんね。

　さて、この玉子、あなたなら食べますか。

　When I cracked the egg, I found something such as white wrinkly tissue in the egg white. At that time, I thought that a wing had begun to grow, but this is not possible because the egg is unfertilized eggs.

　There is a thing called a chalaza that fixes the yolk inside the egg. It's that white stringy thing in an egg white. I suppose the chalaza may be abnormally developed.

　Now, would you like to eat this egg?

若葉蜘蛛(ワカバグモ) Oxytate striatipes

　手前のスノーフレークの花に、茎と同じ黄緑色のワカバグモが張り付いています。第1脚と2脚を大きく楕円状に広げ、8つもある目であたりをうかがい、獲物を待っています。

　The flower of the snowflake in the foreground is covered with the yellow-green Oxytate striatipes, a kind of spider, which has the same color as the stem. It spreads its first and second legs into an oval shape and uses its "eight" eyes to look around and is waiting for prey.

雪解百合(ユキゲユリ) glory of the snow Chionodoxa

　雪解百合(ユキゲユリ)の英名は、グローリー・オブ・ザ・スノウ(glory of the snow)です。学名のchionodoxa はギリシア語に由来します。 前半のchionは雪、後半のdoxaは輝きを意味します。和名、英名、学名のいずれにも雪が名前の中にあります。春を告げる可愛らしい花です。

　日本では、和名のユキゲユリよりチオノドクサと学名で呼ばれることが多いです。チオノドクサの発音が日本語的だからでしょう。

　The Japanese name includes the meaning of melting snow. The English name is glory of the snow. The genus name chionodoxa is derived from the Greek words. The first half, chion, means snow, and second half doxa means glory. The Japanese name, English name, and scientific name all have snow in their names. The lovely flowers that usher in spring.

　In Japan, it is commonly called Chionodoxa instead of the Japanese name Yukige-Yuri. Probably because the pronunciation of Chionodoxa is like Japanese.

ヒマラヤユキノシタ Himalayan creeping saxifrage

　我が家では、ヒマラヤユキノシタが毎年咲いていましたが、いつ頃からか姿を消しました。犯人はだれだか見当はついています（笑）。

　My Himalayan creeping saxifrage used to bloom every year, but it disappeared from a while ago. I have an idea who pull out them (lol).
