大蔓穂(オオツルボ) Cuban lily

　オオツルボを見るたびに、ある幼稚園の滑り台のそばに、それが生えていたのを思い出します。園児がその上を歩くことがあるのか、傷んだ姿にもかかわらず、咲いていました。オオツルボは丈夫な植物のようです。

　I remember the Cuban lilies grew by the slide at a kindergarten every time I see that. They were blooming even with a damaged appearance, probably because the kindergarteners occasionally walked on them. Cuban lily seems to be hardy plant. 

芍薬(シャクヤク) Chinese peony

　道端に咲く芍薬ですが、誰かが大切に育てているのでしょう。

　This Chinese peony blooms on the roadside, but I suppose someone is carefully breeding.

赤芽柏(アカメガシワ) Japanese Mallotus

　新芽は赤色をしていますが、粘着テープで葉の表面を覆う毛を剥がすと、緑の葉の表面が現れます。赤色の毛が紫外線から葉を守っているのですね。

　The shoots are red in color, but when the hairs covering the leaf surface are peeled off with adhesive tape, the green leaf surface is revealed. Red hairs protect the leaves from UV rays.

二つ星てんとう虫 two-star ladybug

　てんとう虫の模様には色々ありますが、二つ星を見る機会は少ないです。

　There are many kinds of ladybug patterns, but there is little chance of seeing two-stars.

豚菜(ブタナ) catsear

　花は、タンポポに似ていますが異なる草です。長い茎が途中で何本かに枝分かれして、その先に花をつけます。このブタナ、何故か茎は横に伸びていました。

　フランスではこの草は豚のサラダと呼ばれます。それに由来して、日本語では豚菜と命名されました。若葉はクセが少ないので、サラダとして、人間でも食べられます。食べることができる植物ですが、外来生物法では、ブタナを要注意外来生物に指定しています。

　This flower looks like a dandelion, but is a different grass. A long stalk branched into 2 or 3 branches in the middle, and flowers are attached at each top. I don't know why these stalks were growing laterally.

　In France, this grass is called pig salad. Derived from it, it was named pig vegetable (butana) in Japan. The young leaves have little peculiarity, so even humans can eat them as a salad. Although the plant is edible, the Invasive Alien Species Act designates catsear as an invasive species.

へら大葉子(ヘラオオバコ) English Plantain

　葉は全て根元に生えるので、茎の長さが強調されます。花から伸びた雄しべが花序の周りを回る衛星のようで、一度見たら忘れられない姿です。

　All leaves grow at the bottom, which accentuates the length of the stem. The stamens that emerge from the flowers are like satellites that orbit the inflorescence, and once you see an English plantain, you will never forget it.

茅萱(チガヤ) Imperata cylindrica

　チガヤは、サトウキビの近隣種です。若い穂を抜き取って、噛むとかすかな甘みがあるそうです。写真のものは、噛むには成長しすぎです。

　Imperata cylindrica is an adjacent variety of sugar cane. They say there is a faint sweetness when the young ears are pulled out and chewed. Those in this picture are too grown to be suitable for chewing.
