ルドベキア プレーリー サン Rudbeckia Prairie Sun

　ヒマワリに似ていますが、これはルドベキア プレーリー サンです。

花弁の基部が橙色で先端が黄色であり、中心の盛り上がった花芯が薄黄緑色です。この色の組み合わせはよい取り合わせです。

　Although it looks like a sunflower, this is actually Rudbeckia Prairie Sun.

　The base portion of the petals is orange and the tip section is yellow, and the raised center of a flower is pale yellow-green. This color combination is a good match.

瑠璃玉薊(ルリタマアザミ) globethistle

　随分、トゲトゲした花だと思います。

　I think it is a very spiky flower.

桔梗(キキョウ) balloon flower

　花の中を覗くと、そこには天狗がいました。

　When I looked into the flower, there was a long-nosed goblin.

紫馬簾菊(ムラサキバレンギク) Echinacea

　花が終わりに近づくと舌状花が垂れ下がり、火消しの纏(まとい)のような形になります。火消しの纏とは、江戸時代の火消しが所属する組を示す標識のことです。昔の消火活動は、類焼を防ぐための破壊作業でした。纏持ちは、勇敢にもその火事場の最前線に立ち纏を高く掲げて、火消し達の士気を高める大切な役割を果たす花形でした。

　話は変わりますが、こんな形の金魚がいてもいいですね。

　As the flower nears its end, the ray florets droop and form into a "火消しの纏 (Hikeshi no matoi)" in Japanese. "Hikeshi no matoi" is a firefighter's standard, a kind of flag. It is a indicator of the group the firefighter belonging, in the Edo period. In the past, fire extinguishing activities were destructive work to prevent fires from spreading. The man with "Hikeshi no matoi" bravely stood at the forefront of the fire scene and held it up high, playing an important role in raising the morale of the firefighters.

　That aside, it would be nice to have a goldfish that looks like this.

珍車(チングルマ) Aleutian avens

　コケモモと同様に、チングルマも草に見えますが、意外にも木です。高山帯の厳しい環境では、植物は背を伸ばすのが困難なようで、横に広がり太陽光を受けるのでしょう。背が低い植物は、どうも草に見えてしまいます。

　Like a cowberry, Aleutian avens looks like grass, but it is actually a tree. In the harsh environment of the alpine zone, it seems difficult for the plants to grow taller, so they spread sideways and receive sunlight. Shorter plants tend to be considered grasses.

這松(ハイマツ) Siberian dwarf pine

　強風にさらされる枝が、名前の通り地を這うように伸びています。遠くに見るその姿に厳しさを感じますが、近くに寄って新葉(わかば)を見ると、また別の穏やかな表情を見せてくれます。

　Branches exposed to strong winds stretch to crawl on the ground. When you see it from a distance, you can feel its severe appearance, however, when you get closer and look at the young leaves, you can see another peaceful expression.

苔桃(コケモモ) cowberry

　あちらこちらの岩陰に、自生して群落を作っていました。コケモモは草に見えますが実は木です。

　木と草の違いは、大きい小さいに関係なく、地上部が何年も生き延びるのが木です。

　Cowberries were growing wild and forming colonies behind rocks here and there. It looks like grass, but it is actually a tree.

　The difference between trees and grasses is that, regardless of the size of the plant, the trees have the above-ground part lives for many years.
