浮釣木(ウキツリボク) trailing abutilon

　ウツキリボクの花の咲く時期は、6月から10月と聞きますが、12月の今の時期に咲いていました。赤い部分は、花ではなく萼です。黄色い花弁から垂れ下がっているものは、ズイチュウと呼ばれる、雌しべと雄しべの合体です。

　They say trailing abutilon bloom from June to October, but they bloomed at this time in December. The red part is the calyx, not the flower. A hanging down object from the yellow petals is a combination of pistils and stamens called gynostemium.

川床 riverbed

　川床は、侵食された柱状節理のように見えます。1000万年程前に、オレンジ色に輝く溶岩流がここを流れたのでしょう。

　キラウエア火山では溶岩流を見るための展望台が設置されているそうです。70年程前の伊豆大島の三原山の大噴火では、マグマを見に行き、その神秘さに魅せられたのか、溶岩湖に身を投げる人が何人もいたそうです。

　This riverbed looks like an eroded columnar joint. I think an orange lave current probably came down here about 10 million years ago.

　I hear there is an observation deck to see lava flows at Kilauea volcano. A large eruption occurred at Mt. Mihara on Izu Oshima about 70 years ago. There were many people who went to see the magma and some of them threw themselves into the lava lake, probably because they were fascinated by the mystery landscape.

カラー calla lily

　漏斗状の花びらに見える部分は葉です。花の本体は、黄色い棒状の部分で、周囲に花が多数密生しています。生物に限らず万物は、本当に多様で不思議だと思います。

　The part that looks like a funnel-shaped petal is actually a leaf. The real flowers are on the yellow bar, where many flowers are densely populated. I think everything, not only living things, is really diverse and mysterious.

透過光 Transmitted light

　透過光で見る、辛うじて張り付いている落ち葉です。次の瞬間に、何処かに行ってしまいました。

　Fallen leaf, which barely clinging, is seen in transmitted light. The next moment it went somewhere.

見納め took a one last look

　思いかけず、紅葉を見ることができました。これで見納めと思います。

　Unexpectedly, I was able to look the autumn leaves. I think this was the last opportunity to look at the autumn leaves.

アロエ aloe

　アロエを見かけることはよくありますが、花を見るのは初めてです。咲かせるコツが、何かあるのでしょうか。

　We see aloe in everyday life, but it's my first time I see its flower. I wonder if there's some secret to make it bloom.

石蕗(ツワブキ) leopard plant

　花の少ないこの時期に、黄色い花を咲かせるツワブキです。日陰でも育ち、葉柄を食べることもできるそうですが、ちょっと硬そうですね。

　It is a leopard plant that blooms yellow flowers at this time when there are few flowers. It grows even in poor sunlight, and they say you can eat its stems, but it looks a bit hard.
