むかご aerial tuber

オニユリの葉の付け根に黒いムカゴが沢山生っています。昔は、このムカゴを食用にしたそうですが、色が濃いからあるいは、花の名前が恐いからか、食べる気にはなりません。

A lot of black aerial tubers grew at the root of leaves of tiger lilies. I heard that the people of former days ate these aerial tubers. However I don't feel like eating it, probably because of the color or the beast flower name.

向日葵 sunflower

室内に飾られたヒマワリです。太陽が無いと、どっちを向くのでしょうか。

It is genuine sunflowers displayed in doors. If there is no sun, which direction do you face?

熱帯気候 tropical climate

連日の暑さで、大人も子供と一緒に水浴びをしたいほどです。

It's been extremely hot for days. Even an adult wants to bathe with children.

耐踏み抜き性 penetration resistance of the sole

何の抵抗感もなく、砂利の中に立っていた釘が、サンダルを突き抜け足に突き刺さりました。安価で軽便なプラスチックサンダルに潜む危険を思い知りました。

I didn't feel any resistance, but the nail which stood in gravel went through a shoe sole and stuck in my foot. I learned that the convenient cheap plastic sandals have the pitfall.

ヤマユリ gold-banded lily

芳香漂う斜面で暑さも忘れ撮影しました。

At the slope where a strong sweet smell was drifted, I forgot the hotness and devoted myself to photography.

クロアゲハ spangle

大型の蝶は優雅に飛びますが、羽根が傷んでいることが多いです。

The large butterfly flies elegantly, but the feather was usually injured partially.

エイジング aging

蒸留酒であるウイスキーは、樽の中で長期に保存されると、熟成が進みまろやかになりますが、瓶詰めされると熟成は止まるそうです。
一方、醸造酒のワインの中には、瓶詰めして寝かせると、熟成が進む銘柄があります。同じ醸造酒の日本酒は、瓶詰めすると劣化が始まります。
色々なお酒があることは、興味深いです。
なお、日本酒は、なるべく製造年月日の新しいものを求たほうが良いようです。

While the whiskey of the distilled liquor is stored in a barrel for a long term, the aging advances, and it becomes mellow, but it is said that the aging stops when it is bottled.
On the other hand, about the fermented liquor, there are some brands of wines that advance the aging after those are packed in a bottle.
Once bottled, sake of fermented liquor same as wine starts degradation.
It is interesting that there is various liquor.
By the way, when we buy sake, it is better to buy new product of manufacture date.

虎の尾に蝶 butterfly on the tiger's tail

オカトラノオにチョウチョがとまっています。

One butterfly is perching on a gooseneck loosestrife.
A gooseneck loosestrife is called a 'tiger's tail' in Japanese.

オオバギボウシ hosta

シダの葉の間からのびてきたオオバギボウシです。

It is a hosta sieboldiana which emerged from the interval of the leaves of the ferns.

シオカラトンボ common skimmer

トンボに逃げられても、暫くその場所で待っていると、また同じに場所に戻ってきます。
自分の縄張りを監視する場所が決まっているのでしょう。

Even if a dragonfly escaped, if I am waiting calmly for a while at that place, the dragonfly returns to the same place again.
The places to watch its territory may have been fixed.

ネムノキ silk tree

案の定、見頃を過ぎていました。何事も、タイミングを合わせるのは難しいです。

The flowers of the silk tree were almost past the peak as I expected. It is difficult to match a timing with everything.

ヤブカンゾウ orange daylily

ユリの花に似ていますが、あまり繊細な感じはしません。

This flower resembles the lily, but I feel less delicacy than the lily.

たわわに実る heavy with fruits

連日、強い日差しが降り注いでいます。桐の枝には沢山の実がついています。背景は、風で揺れてきらめく稲の葉です。

Strong sunlight pours these days. The branches of paulownia have many fruits. There are glittering leaves of the rice which are waving by the wind in the background.

テッポウユリ easter lily

テッポウユリの蕾は、薄緑や白、赤紫の色と、いろいろな色を楽しむことができます。

I can enjoy the various color, light green, white, purplish red, of flower buds of an Easter lily.

アガパンサス agapanthus

アガパンサスは茎が長いので、風に揺れる姿は優雅ですが、写真には撮りづらいです。

An agapanthus has a long stem, so the figure swaying in the breeze is elegant, but it is hard to take photograph.

ガクアジサイ hydrangea

随分控えめに咲いているガクアジサイです。原生種に近いのかも知れません。

It is Hydrangea blooming rather modestly. I am afraid it is near to the ancestor.

両性花と装飾花

中心部にある青色をした小さな花が、雄しべと雌しべを持つ両性花で、 周辺部にある大きく目立ち、花に見えるものは、萼であり装飾花と呼ばれます。

The blue small flowers centrally located are flowers which have stamens and a pistillate. The large and noticeable things at peripheral part looking like flowers are calyx and are called ornamental flower.

アジサイに毒 poison of a hydrangea

品種にもよりますが、アジサイには毒をもつものもあるそうです。アジサイそのものを食べる人はいないと思いますが、アジサイに添えられた物は食べないようにしましょう。また、ペットが食べることがないよう気をつける必要もあるようです。

It depends on a kind, but some hydrangea seems to have poison. I think that there is none of people who eats a hydrangea directly, but it is better not to eat the food served on a leaf of a hydrangea. In addition, it is necessary to be careful so that your pet does not eat it.

このアジサイが毒を持っているかいないかは私は分かりません。
I don't know if this hydrangea has poison or not.

ジュノー Juno

NASAの木星探査機であるJunoが、地球スイングバイ方式での加速により、木星軌道に乗ったことだけでも驚きですが、木星の軌道上を周回しながら観測を続けており、予想外のことがいろいろ分かってきたことは驚嘆に値します。
役目を終えたジュノーは、10月に木星に突入します。観測データの解析は来年になりますが、結果が楽しみです。

I was amazed to see that Juno which is Jupiter space probe of NASA got on the orbit of the Jupiter by the earth swing-by method (gravity assist speed boost from Earth). Furthermore Juno has been going around orbit of Jupiter and continues observing the planet. And it deserves praise that Juno discovers many things which we do not imagine.
Juno finished duty in October and is to fall into the Jupiter. The analysis of observation data continues until the next year, but I am looking forward to the result.

pink annabelle

ハブランサス pink rain lily

この花を見た時に、最初はサフランモドキかと思いましたが、横を向いて咲いているのでハブランサスでしょう。サフランモドキは、上を向いて咲きます。咲く向きによって、花を見分けることは興味深いです。

When I looked at this flower, I thought that this flower was a Zephyranthes carinata, but I concluded this flower was a pink rain lily, because this flower bloomed horizontally. The Zephyranthes carinata blooms upward. It is interesting to distinguish the kind of flower by the direction where the flower blooms.

蜜の味 taste of honey

ミツバチが活動する時期になりました。ポピーの蜜はどんな味でしょうか。

It is the time when a bee is active. I wonder what kind of taste the honey of the poppy is.

ナツツバキ stewartia

花の形がツバキと似ているので、夏ツバキと呼ばれますが、どちらかと言うとサザンカに似ているように思います。

This tree is called a summer camellia, because the form of the flower resembles a flower of a camellia, but I think that the flower rather resembles a sasanqua.

ガウラ gaura

長い茎が風に揺れると、白い蝶が飛んでいるいるように見えることから、白蝶草とも呼ばれます。園芸品種として作られた、ピンクや赤色の花もあります。

When a long stem gently swings for wind, the flower looks like butterfly flying. So it is called the white butterfly grass.
Pink flowers and red flowers have been made as a cultivated variety.
