悪意のあるサイト Malicious site

小学校の課外事業で使うテキストの作成を始めました。
使用する漢字が学習済か調べるために、インターネットのあるサイトを参照しようとしたところ、なんとそのサイトは、ハイランクの危険なサイトであると、ウイルス対策ソフトが警告を出しました。

誤検知かもしれませんが、あえて危険を冒すことは止めて、本の辞書を利用することにしました。

I began to make a text which will be used at primary school in this summer extracurricular lesson.
I consulted with the certain internet site to see whether the Chinese characters which are used in the text had been learned. To my surprise, my anti-virus software gave me a warning. It said that there is a high rank risk on this site.

It might be a false detection, but I avoided running a risk. I decided to use printed dictionary.

頬杖 to rest one's cheek in one's hand

頬杖をついて、休んでいるのカモ
私の英語辞書には、一語で頬杖を表現する単語がありません。英語圏では、頬杖をつく行為は、一般的ではないのでしょうか。

This duck seems to be resting his cheek on his hand.
I couldn't find a single word that means resting the cheek on the hand on my dictionary. I think whether this is because the act was not common in the English-speaking world.

暑い夏 Hot summer

今日はとても暑い一日でした。
日本の気候区分は温帯に分類されていますが、室内でも摂氏33度もあり、夏は熱帯地域と変わらない暑さだと思います。

Today was a very hot day.

ねじり草 Spiranthes

この三本は同じ向きに回転しています。上から見ると右巻き、下から見れば左巻き。さて、どっち巻きと言えばよいのでしょうか。

この花を見て、"ねじの回転"を思い出しました。しばらくぶりに読んで見ようと思います。

As for two of them, stems have flowers spiraling up in the same direction. The other stem is counter direction. Seeing from the top, it is clockwise. Seeing from a bottom, it is counterclockwise. Well, are these flowers clockwise or counterclockwise?

By the way in Japan, a counterclockwise person means an odd person.

And now, these flowers reminded me "The Turn of the Screw". I intend to read it after a long time.

アーティチョーク Artichoke

アーティチョークは、ヨーロッパやアメリカでは、食用として珍しくないそうです。私は食べたことがありません。日本では、観賞用として栽培されますが、野菜として普及していません。

スペイン料理のレストランで、注文したことがあります。生憎入荷しておらず、食べることができませんでした。


In Europe and the United States, it seems to be usual food.　But I have not eaten it yet. In Japan, it is mainly cultivated for ornamental use, does not spread as vegetables.

I have ordered it at a restaurant of Spanish food, unfortunately the shop had not received it yet and I missed the chance to eat it.
