見かけなくなるもの about to disappear

この赤い郵便ポストは、1945年に導入された郵便差出箱1号（丸型）です。この古い形の郵便ボスとを、最近はほとんど見かけませんが、ここではまだ活躍していました。ボディに浮き上がる錆や重ね塗りされたペンキ、そしてまた、台座が石で作られていることには、古さを感じさせます。
左の公衆電話も、携帯電話が普及するに連れ、今後はその数を減らすことでしょう。

This red public mailbox, type1 (round shape), was introduced in 1945. I hardly see the old public mailbox recently, but it has been still working here. "The rust and repeated coating on the body" and "the stone pedestal" let me feel the oldness of the mailbox.
The spread of the cell phone also would decrease public telephones (left).

秋バラ rose in autumn

暑い夏も過ぎ、バラが咲き始めました。

Hot summer is gone, and roses have begun to bloom.

白熱電球 filament lamp

屋外で白熱電球を使用していたとき、空から一粒の雨粒が、電球の熱く熱せられた薄いガラスに落ちました。雨粒が一瞬に蒸発するとともに、ガラスに大きな穴が開きました。

When I used a filament lamp outdoors, one raindrop fell from the sky on the thin glass of the lanmp which became hot. The raindrop evaporated in a moment and made a big hole in glass.

丈夫なコスモス vital cosmos

歩く人もいない河原の遊歩道に倒れたコスモスが、沢山の美しい花をつけていました。コスモスは、見かけによらず丈夫な花です。

There was a fallen stem of the cosmos on the promenade of a riverside where persons seldom walk along. Many beautiful flowers bloomed to the stem. A cosmos is a vital plant in spite of the appearance.

蒲の穂 ear of cattail

串団子のような蒲の穂が生えていました。

An ear of cattail such as a skewer dumpling grew.

ススキ Japanese silver grass

ススキは、古くは屋根の材料にしたり、最近でもお月見のお供えにしたりと、日本人の生活に関わりが深い植物です。しかし、北米ではススキが侵略的外来種に分類されていると聞きました。

Japanese silver grass was used as material of roof in the old days and is used even now as an offering of the viewing the moon in autumn, so it is a familiar plant for a Japanese.
However, I heard that Japanese silver grass has been classified into an invasive alien species in North America.

ホオズキ Chinese lantern plant

草むらを歩いていると、突然ホオズキが。なんでこんな所に生えているのでしょう。

Chinese lantern plant appeared suddenly when I was rambling on grass. I wondered why this plant grew in such a place.
