折り畳まれたチューブ folded inner tube

自転車の後輪の空気が、直ぐ抜けると知人が言うので、単なるパンクだと思い、直すことにしました。タイヤの耳をホイールのリムから外して、内部の状況を見てびっくりしました。なんと、チューブが折り畳まれているではありませんか。おまけに、ゴムのカスがいっぱい出てきました。

チューブを引っ張り出すと、チューブの長さは、リムの円周より10cm位長いのです。でも、タイヤの中で折り畳まれた状態のときは、重なる部分が10cmよりずっと長かったです。引き伸ばされたうえ、折り畳まれていたのです。
折りジワのように見える線に沿って3箇所連続した小さな空気の漏れるところがありました。

どうしてこんな状態になったのか不思議です。想像ですが、チューブが長すぎで、タイヤの中でシワがよっていた。そして、空気が抜けた状態で走ったときに、シワがタイヤとチューブの間に強い摩擦を引き起こした。摩擦力は、チューブに引っ張りの力が加わり、延びたチューブが折り畳まれた。

真相はわかりません。前輪を中を覗いてみれば、ヒントがあるかもしれません。
タイヤとチューブの両方は、SAKURAという銘柄のものでした。これらの部品は、安くて品質が悪いものだと思います。 材質がとても柔らかいのです。柔らかさは作業を楽にしますが、耐久性では劣ります。

大切なことは、空気の抜けた状態では自転車に乗らないことです。

One of my acquaintances said that the rear wheel air pressure of his bicycle tended to escape easily. I thought it was just a puncture and I began to fix it. When I unfixed the tire fringe from the wheel rim, I was surprised to see the inner condition. Oh my God! The inner tube was folded up and lots of rubber waste came out.

When I pulled out the tube, the length of it was about 10cm longer than the wheel rim circle. When it folded in the tire, the overlapping length was much longer than 10 cm, so it seemed to be stretched and folded up. There were three very small leak points consecutive along the line that looked like a fold line.

How could this happen? I guess that the tube was a little long, so it got wrinkled in the tire. When running at low pressure, the wrinkle caused a strong friction between the tube and the tire. The friction applied the strong tension to the tube. The tension stretched the tube and it was folded up in the tire.

I do not know what the truth is. If I open the front wheel, there might be a hint. Both the tire and tube brands were SAKURA. I think these parts are cheap and poor quality. These materials were very soft. Softness makes the task easy, but less durable.

The important thing is not to ride a bicycle with low air pressure.

ヤマボウシの実 fruite of Japanese dogwood

ヤマボウシの実が成り始めました。赤く熟すと見かけによらず美味しいです。
人気がないのは、実が小さくて、種が邪魔だからでしょう。
ヤマボウシの果実酒を作ってみたいのですが、まとまった量の実を販売しているお店を知りません。

The fruit of Japanese dogwood has begun to grow. It is delicious when it ripens in red. It is unpopular because the fruit is small and the seeds are bothersome.
I would like to make Japanese dogwood liquor, but I do not know the shop that sells an adequate amount of fruit.

Japanese dogwood and (flowering or American) dogwood are different trees.

エゴノキの実 fluits of Japanese snowbell

エゴノキの実の果皮には、有毒物質が含まれていますが、昔は洗濯石鹸の代用に使われたそうです。
我が家の家庭菜園のキュウリの支柱に、エゴノキの枝を追加したところ、エゴノキには巻きつきませんでした。
枝にも毒があるのではないかと思います。

Although the peel of Japanese snowbell contains toxic substance, it has been used as a substitute for laundry soap.
When I added a branch of a Japanese snowbell to support pillars for cucumber in my garden, the cucumber did not wind around the branch.
I suppose that the branch has also toxic substance.

ひと仕事 bit of work

私もクマバチも、雨の止んでいる間のひと仕事です。

カシワバアジサイ oakleaf hydrangea

八重咲きのカシワバアジサイは、スノーフレークと呼ばれます。同じ名前が、植物（ヒガンバナ科）や魚（クマノミの仲間）にもあります。
一重咲きのカシワバアジサイは、スノークイーンと呼ばれます。同じ名前の競走馬や童話の題名などがあります。
スノーが名前に多用されるのは、白い・小さい・やわらかいという心象からでしょうか。スノードロップなんて、いかにも美味しそうな名前ですね。

The double flowered oak hydrangea is called snowflake. The same name can be found in plants (cluster amaryllis families) and fish (anemone fish familes).
The single flowered oak hydrangea is called snowqueen. There are also the racehorse and the fairy tale that have the same name.
I think that snow is often used as a name because of it has the image of white, small and soft. The name snowdrop looks so delicious.

お多福アジサイ uzuajisai

渦アジサイが正当な名前ですが、オタフクとかオカメとかと呼ばれるアジサイです。名前の通り、可愛らしいアジサイの花です。

Uzuajisai is valid name of this flower, but it is called "otafuku" or "okame" usually. Both "otafuku" and "okame" means she is not beautiful but beloved. I think this hydrangea is really beloved, just like the name.

巣立ち fledging

小さな猛禽、ツミの巣立ちです。左下の巣から出てきました。
A small bird of prey, Japanese sparrowhawk, came out of the nest located the lower left on this photo.
