カタバミ oxalis

　鞘の中にある種は、透明な皮をまとっています。この皮には弾力があり、刺激を受けると弾けて、目にも留まらぬ速さで種を放出します。種は、１～２mも飛ぶそうです。

　Each seeds in pods are covered in clear skin. This skin is elastic, pops when stimulated, and releases the seed at lightning speed. It flies from 1 to 2 metres.

山椒(サンショウ) Japanese pepper(sansyo)

　サンショの若葉を擂る(する)と、葉が軸から分かれます。炒っても、凍らせても同様に分離できるので、軸の存在を気にせず料理ができます。料理のなかに、軸が存在することは好まれませんね。

　When you grinde young leaves of Japanese pepper, sansho in Japanese, the leaves separate from the axis. It can be separated in the same way, whether it is roasted or frozen, so you can cook regardless of  the existence of the axis.

蜜柑(ミカン) mikan

　ミカンの果実はよく食べるのですが、花を見るのは初めてです。ジャスミンに似たとても良い香りがします。

　I often eat mikan fruit, but this is my first time to see the flowers. It has a very pleasant fragrance that resembles jasmine.

夕化粧(ユウゲショウ) rose evening primrose

　夕化粧という名前ですが、朝から咲いています。

　Although it has the word of the evening in its name, it blooms from the morning.

蛇苺(ヘビイチゴ) false strawberry

　ヘビイチゴは、バラ科の植物です。

　名前に蛇がついていますが、蛇はこの実を食べないことは、みなさん御存知の通り。カラスが食べたという目撃情報がありますが、頭のよい遊び好きなカラスが、遊んでいただけかも知れません。

　False strawberry is a plant belonging to the Rosaceae family. It is a plant that is distributed in Japan and Southeast Asia.

　A word of snake exists in the name of Japanese, but we know that snakes don't eat it. There is a witness that crow ate it, but I suppose smart and playful crow may have just played.

大麦(オオムギ) barley

　オオムギの棘状に伸びる"のぎ"は、コムギに比べ長くて立派です。

　The "awn" of barley in the form of whisker is longer and more splendid than that of wheat.

ジャガイモ potato

　花が一斉に咲いています。ジャガイモは種芋から増やすので、たとえ花が実を結んでも利用されることはありません。

　Many flowers are in full bloom. Potatoes are produced from seed potatoes, so although the flowers bear fruit, they will not be used.
