　梅が咲き始めました。

　単に梅と云うと、白梅のことを指すらしいでが、一般的には紅梅も白梅も梅と呼ばれます。白梅が先行して日本に広まった「なごり」でしょうね。

　Plum is called "ume" in Japanese.

　The ume blossoms have begun to bloom. When they call a tree simply ume, it seems to mean a white "ume" among some people. However, reddish pink and white umes are usually simply called umes. It's probably a remnant of the fact that white umes were spread to Japan in advance.

　樹形が大きくずれるこのような剪定は、何の目的で行われたのでしょうか。

　What was the purpose of this pruning? It seems to have destroyed the shape of the tree.

ニオイザクラ Luculia

　ブログ読者の方からニオイザクラを頂きました。名前の通り、良い香りがします。花は長い花筒（かとう）を持っているので、横から見ると桜の花には似ていませんが、正面から見ると桜に似ています。花びらは、根本に隣につながるヒダがある珍しい構造をしています。

　家庭で花を咲かせるのは難しいようです。

　I received a Luculia from a blog reader. It has a really good fragrance. The flower has a long flower tube, so it does not look like a cherry blossom when viewed from the side, but it looks like a cherry blossom when viewed from the front. The petals have an unusual structure with gathers that connect to the next at the bottom part.

　It seems difficult to make flowers bloom at home.

小啄木鳥(コゲラ) Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker

　頭上でキツツキ特有のドラミングの音が聞こえたので見上げると、コゲラが盛んに嘴を木の幹に打ち付けていました。20g程の小さな体にしてはエネルギッシュです。この時期、広葉樹は落葉しているので、野鳥を見る機会が増えます。残念ながら私のカメラでは、小さな鳥の撮影ができません。今日の写真はWikipediaから借用したものです。

　I heard the sound of woodpecker drumming overhead, so when I looked up, I found a Kogera. He/she was actively hitting the beak against the trunk of a tree. It is great for a small body weighing about 20g. This time of year, broadleaf trees are shedding their leaves, so you have more opportunities to see wild birds. クリスマスローズ Christmas rose

　猛毒のトリカブトと同じキンポウゲ科に属し、姿に似合わず毒を持っています。花びらに見えるのは萼片なので、開花期間は長目です。

　It belongs to the Ranunculaceae family same as the deadly poisonous aconite. It has poison in spite of the looking. The parts which have the appearance of a petal are calyxes. So, it blooms relatively for a long time.

引っ付き虫 devil's beggartick

　棘のついた種が服にくっついて難儀することがよくあります。ツルツルの服を着てくればよかったと反省の繰り返しです。

　Thorny seeds often stick to clothes, it's  a hard time. In each case, I regret not having worn slippery clothes.

浮世絵 ukiyoe

　弁慶の行く手を阻むのは、怨霊の乗り移った大波。この版画を見て、冨嶽三十六景 神奈川沖浪裏を思い出しました。迫力のある構図です。

　Rogue waves, the incarnation of the devil, is blocking the escape route for the hero. This print reminded me of the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji: The Great Wave off Kanagawa. These have an incredibly powerful composition.
