強い風 strong wind

　春は、風が強いが吹くので、花が揺れて写真撮影には苦労します。それは、春には発達した低気圧の通過が多いことと、日ざしの強まりによって、空気の対流が活発になるからです。

　Spring is a season when the wind is strong and blows, making it difficult to take pictures because the flowers shake. The reason for this is that in spring in Japan, there are many passages with well-developed low pressure systems, and stronger sunlight leads to more active air convection.

ツツジの生け花 azalea flower arrangement

　狭い玄関の角を使ったツツジの生け花です。空間を上手に使った展示だと思います。下部の奥で、花と葉が重なり合っているのが残念です。その部分の花を、もいでしまうのも良いかと思います。勝手なことを言ってすみません。

　This is an azalea flower arrangement, using the corner of a narrow entrance. I think this exhibition utilizes the space effectively. It's unfortunate that the flowers and leaves overlap at the bottom in the back. To me, removing the flowers from that part would be the better option. I'm sorry for saying unnecessary things.

赤い新芽 red sprout

　こんな固く結んだ赤色のモミジの芽の状態を見たことがありません。詳しい方に聞いたところ、イロハモミジの一種の出猩々(デショウジョウ)のようだということでした。

　デショウジョウは初めて聞く名前ですが、一般的に庭木として植えられるモミジだそうです。

　The red maple buds are so tightly bound that I haven't seen them before. The following information was given to me by someone who is knowledgeable about plants. The 'Deshojo', a Japanese maple type, is what it looks like. 

　This is the first time I've heard the name 'Deshojo', but it seems to be a maple tree that is generally planted as a garden tree.

鯛釣り草(タイツリソウ) bleeding heart

　花が釣竿にぶら下がった鯛に見えるので、タイツリソウと名付けられていますが、どのように見れば花が鯛に見えるのでしょうか。英名では、血のしたたる心臓と呼ばれますが、凄惨な雰囲気は感じられずユーモラスな形です。

　They say that the flowers looks like sea bream hanging from a fishing rod, in Japan. However, how can I see the flower looks like a sea bream? It doesn't look like a flower that resembles a sea bream to me. 

　The name for it in English is the dripping heart, but its humorous shape that does not have a gruesome atmosphere.

君子蘭(クンシラン) Kaffir lily

　クンシランはヒガンバナ科の植物ですが、名前に蘭が付いています。英名でも名前に、別の科の植物であるユリが付いています。

　日本では、昔に外国から持ち込まれた珍しい植物の名前には、蘭が付け加えられる事もあったそうです。

　そろそろ我が家の庭に、鈴蘭が咲きますが、この植物も蘭科ではありません。

　Kaffir lily is a plant in the Amaryllidaceae family, but it has an orchid in its name. The English name also includes the word lily, which is a separate family of plants.

　In Japan, orchid was sometimes added to the names of rare plants brought from abroad in the past.

　My garden is about to see the blooming of bell orchids, but this plant is not a member of the orchid family either.

キランソウ ajuga reptans

　蘭の花に似ていますが、キク科の植物です。いろいろな薬効があると言われています。その効果のひとつに、すりつぶした液体を肩に塗ると、こりが治るそうです。でも、肌が荒れたりしないか心配です。

　This flower has the appearance of an orchid, but it belongs to the Asteraceae family. I've been told that this plant has various medicinal benefits. If you use ground liquid on your shoulders, you could reduce stiffness. However, I am worried about if it causes skin problems.

大甘菜(オオアマナ) Star of Bethlehem

　抜いても抜いても、庭にはびこる厄介な多年草です。

　It's a troublesome perennial that run riot in my garden, no matter how I remove it.
