ムラサキルエリア minnieroot
ムラサキルエリアは、柳葉ルイラ草(ヤナギバルイランソウ)とも呼ばれ、日陰を好む植物です。花びらの表面は、細かいシボのある絹織物(ちりめん)のように見えます。

サフランモドキ Zephyranthes carinata
そろそろサフランモドキの花の見頃は終了です。きれいに咲いているのを選んで写真に撮りました。
サフランモドキは、ヒガンバナ科ですので、ヒガンバナと同様に有毒物質を含みます。特に鱗茎に強い毒性があります。それはさておき、名前にモドキがつくとなんだか、だましのイメージが感じられます。お気の毒な名前です。

Zephyranthes carinata is a member of the amaryllis family, namely it contains toxic substances. The bulbs have especially strong poisonous.
Putting that aside, Japanese name of this flower is called "imitation-saffron crocus." Having "imitation" in a name somehow gives off an image of deception, It's a pity name.

臭木(クサギ) harlequin glory bower
宝石のような青紫色の光沢があるクサギの実です。藍色の染料として使えるそうです。
和名は、直截的な表現なので、名付けられた理由がわかりやすいですが、英名はなぜharlequin (道化師) glory (栄光) bower (農夫)となったのか想像がつきません。カッコ内の和訳は適切でないかも知れません。

花虎ノ尾(ハナトラノオ) Physostegia virginiana
我が家では、紫蘇が毎年自然に生えてきます。それはよいのですが、沢山増え過ぎるので、間引きが必要になります。
この写真のハナトラノオもシソ科の植物なので、同様に丈夫でよく育って増えます。花穂には、四方に向かって花が上下方向に並んで沢山咲きます。八方美人ならぬ四方美人ですね。
Perillas grow in my garden every year, even though I have no activity. That's fine, but they grow too much, so thinning out is necessary.

トレニア Trenia
スミレに似たトレニアの花が、たくさん咲いています。夏の花ですが、12月まで咲くこともあると聞きました。
