一本桜 solitary cherry tree

　一本桜とは、単体で咲き誇り、古くから村人に愛されている桜です。

　A solitary cherry tree has been proudly blooming and appreciated by villagers for many years.

立坪菫(タチツボスミレ) tachitubo-sumire(viola grypoceras)

　自生の淡紫色のタチツボスミレが、土手の草むらの中に咲いていました。

　スミレは元々、木(木本)に分類される植物ですが、北上して日本に分布定着する過程で、寒さに耐えるために草(多年生草本)に変身したと聞きました。

　草のが木より耐寒性が勝るのはなぜだかわかりません。

　Wild light purple "tachitubo-sumires" were blooming in the grass on the riverbank.

　I heard that violets are originally classified as trees (woody plant), but in the process of moving north and spreading to Japan, they transformed into grass (perennial herb)  to withstand the cold.

　I'm not sure why grass is better than trees in cold weather.

　一重咲きの小さな紅枝垂れ桜が見頃を迎えました。

　The single-flowered small red weeping cherry tree is in full bloom.

ビオラ viola

　春は花粉の飛ぶ季節です。ビオラも花粉症なのでしょうか。

　There are many pollens in the air in spring. I guess viola's got hay fever.

　キャノーラは遺伝子工学でつくられたセイヨウアブラナの品種です。キャノーラ油は健康によいそうですが、遺伝子工学でつくられたというところが、ちょっとひっかかります。

　Canola is a kind of the made colza in genetic engineering. Canola oil appears to be healthy, but the fact that it is genetically engineered is a bit of a concern.
