虫取り撫子(ムシトリナデシコ) Sweet William Catchfly

　ムシトリナデシコは、茎に粘液を分泌する部分があり、そこで虫を捕らえることができるそうです。その部分は、葉の少し下の部分にあり、茶色くなっています。手で触るとベタつきますが、それほどの粘着力はありません。たとえ、虫を捕らえたとしても、食虫植物ではないので、その虫を消化吸収することはできません。では、何のための粘液かといいますと、受粉に貢献せず、蜜だけ吸いに来る蟻の侵入を、防ぐためと言われています。
