アカツメクサ red clover

　アカツメクサは、遠目に一つの球体の花に見えますが、実際は小さな花の集合体です。おおよそ、30～70の花が集まっているそうです。

　Red clover looks like a single round flower at a distance, but it is actually a cluster of small flowers. It appears that approximately 30 to 70 flowers are collected.

長実雛芥子(ナガミヒナゲシ) long-headed poppy

　ナガミヒナゲシは繁殖力が強いので、いたる所で自生しています。外見に似合わず毒草なので、素手で触るとかぶれるおそれがあります。また、他の植物の生育にも害を及ぼします。自治体からは、見つけたら駆除するよう呼びかけられています。お気の毒な植物です。

　The long-headed poppy is fertile, so it grows wild everywhere. In spite of its appearance, it is a toxic plant and can cause a skin rash if you touch it with your bare hands. It also prevents other plants from growing. Local governments are urging us to remove them if we find them. I think it's an unhappy plant.

夕化粧(ユウゲショウ) rose evening primrose

　和名も英名も名前の中に夕方を意味する言葉が含まれていますが、当地では朝から咲いています。

　Both the Japanese name and the English name include words that signify evening in the name, but here it blossoms from the morning.

例大祭 festival based on tradition of the shrine

　コロナの流行のため、4年ぶりに開催されたお祭りは大いに盛り上がりました。山車がすれ違うときに、競り合ってお互いに、威勢のよさをぶつけ合う様子は見どころです。

　昔は、山車の上に大きな人形が飾られていましたが、架設された電線により通行できなくなり、地上に降ろされ室内で展示されています。

　As a result of the corona outbreak, the festival was held for the first time in four years. So, all participants got into the spirit. When the floats pass each other, it is a highlight to see how they compete  each other with high spirits.

　In the past, large dolls had been displayed on top of the floats, but now they are lowered to the ground and are displayed indoors because there are electric wires above the roads and they cannot get through.

仏の座(ホトケノザ) henbit

　ホトケノザは、茎に沿って葉が三段構造に付いているのが興味深いです。名前の由来は、その葉の形を仏様の台座に見立たのでしょう。

　The shape of henbit is interesting because it has three-tiered leaves along the stem. The Japanese name of the henbit means the pedestal of Buddha. The shape of the leaves reminds us of the Buddha's pedestal.

イタドリ Japanese knotweed

　ハイキングの途中で出会った人から、イタドリは食べられると教えていただきました。その後何年かは、この時期になると、油炒めにして食べていました。ところが、いつの間にか食べることもなくなり、イタドリそのものも忘れてしまいました。食感は良かったけれど美味しくなかったと思います。

　One person I met on the hike said that Japanese knotweed is edible. For several years after that, at this time of year, I was eating stir-fried Japanese knotweed. However, before I realized that, I stopped eating it and forgot it. It had a good texture, but I don't think it was delicious.

ブラシの木の花芽 floral bud of a scarlet bottlebrush

　これはブラシノキの花芽です。ブラシノキの特徴は、ボトル洗浄のブラシの形をした花をつけることですが、丸まった花糸が次第にまっすぐに伸びていく過程を見るのも楽しみです。

　This is a floral bud of a scarlet bottlebrush (Callistemon speciosus.) Scarlet bottlebrushes are characterized by having flowers in the shape of bottle washing brushes, but it is also a pleasure to watch the curled filaments gradually straighten out.
