つるし飾り hanging ornament

古い着物の布から作った細工物を、ひもでつなげて作ります。
雛人形と一緒に飾られますが、女の子のお誕生祝いとして飾られたのが始まりだそうです。

"つるし飾り(tsurushi kazari)" is one of the Japanese traditional craft arts. A literal translation of "Tsurushi Kazari" is "hanging ornament" in English.

These are made of old kimonos and tied each other vertically with a string.
They are displayed with hina dolls to pray for girls' growth and happiness. Hina dolls are dolls for the Doll's festival and depict the imperial court.

However, in the origin, they were displayed as birthday ornaments for the girl.
