黄金比翼桧葉(オウゴンヒヨクヒバ) Filifera Aurea

　円錐型に広がった葉が、名前の通り黄金に輝いていました。

　The leaves spread in a conical shape, shine in gold on a sunny day.

蝋梅(ロウバイ) wintersweet

　ロウバイは香り高い花ですが、何故かここではあまり芳香はただよっていませんでした。でも、蝋細工のような黄色い花は、青空によく映えていました。

　Although a wintersweet is highly fragrant, the fragrance did not waft through here for some reason. However, the yellow flowers that looked like waxwork stood out against the blue sky.

コルク栓が抜けない can't get the cork out

　お酒を飲まない方から、長年放置されていた紹興酒をいただきました。

　早速に飲もうとしましたが、コルク栓が抜けません。過去に何度もワインのコルクを抜くのに失敗して、残骸を瓶の中に落としてしまった苦い経験があります。今回は慎重に進めます。

　赤黒い部分の全体がコルク栓と思われるのですが、手でいくら引っ張っても、こじってもびくともしません。もうこれはコルクを破壊するしかないと、赤黒い部分をプライアでこじり始めました。すると、この部分はプラスチックでシールされているのだと分かりました。シールを取り去ると、全体がコルクではなく、周りは陶器の口になっており、コルクは中央部分に押し込まれていました。後は簡単。ワインオープナーで、難なくコルクを抜くことができました。

　このシールの目的は、コルクの乾燥を防ぐ為なのでしょうか。

　ところで、壺の肩の部分をめぐる囲いは何の為にあるのか分かりません。この囲いがあるので、逆さに置くことができます。ワインセラーでは、瓶を寝かせてコルクが乾かないようにしますが、逆さの姿勢で保存しコルクを乾燥させないようにするためなのでしょうか。

　

　さて、お味の方ですが、長年保存されていたものですので、アルコール濃度は少し低くなっているようですが、芳香も残っており、優しい味を楽しむことができました。

　A person who is not a drinker gave me a bottle of Shaoxing wine that had been sitting around for many years. I made an effort to drink it immediately, but the cork did not come off. I have had the bad experience of failing to uncork a wine not once or twice in the past and dropping the debris into the bottle. This time, I will act with caution.

　The entire red-black part looks like a cork plug, but no matter how much I try pull or pry it by hand, it won't budge. I came to a decision that destroying the red-black cork was the only option, so I started prying it with a pliers. Then I realized that this part was sealed with plastic. When I peeled off the seal, I found that the whole thing was not cork, but a ceramic lip revealed with cork pushed into the center. The remaining procedure is easy. I had no trouble opening the cork with a wine opener.

　What was the reason for sealing it with plastic? Is this intended to avoid the cork drying out?

　By the way I have no idea what the purpose of the fence surrounding the pot's shoulder is. This allows you to place the pot upside down. In wine cellars, bottles are laid down to prevent the corks from drying out. It is also possible to think that holding the bottle upside down prevents the cork from drying out.

　Now, as for the taste, since it has been stored for many years, the alcohol concentration seems to be slightly lower, but the aroma remains and I was able to enjoy the gentle taste.

竹くず bamboo scraps

　年末は、大掃除で大忙しです。竹の廃材が、空の植木鉢に投げ込まれました。偶然に現れたその模様が面白かったので、ポップ調の画像で残しておきました。

　Cleaning becomes a hectic task at the end of the year. Bamboo scraps were thrown into an empty flower pot. The pattern appeared by chance was interesting, so I kept it as a pop-style image.

松葉ガニ crab called 'matsuba gani'

　カニは、なんと怖い顔をしてるのでしょう。そのままで、恐怖映画の主人公になれそうです。そんなカニを、日本人はは躊躇することなく食べています。海外の事情はどうなんでしょう。

　モーゼ五書のレビ記には、水中で生活する動物のうち、鱗とヒレがあるもの以外は、食べてはいけないと記されているそうです。

　The crab's face is quite terrifying! They could be the main character in a horror movie as it is. Japanese people eat these crabs without hesitation. I wonder what the situation is in other parts of the world.

　The Leviticus section of Moses' Pentateuch prohibits eating of aquatic animals without scales and fins.

タラノキの果実 Fruits of Aralia elata

　我が家のタラノキが、大きくなり過ぎたので、大胆に剪定をしました。それに危機感を覚えたのか、その木は根を張りめぐらし、庭のあちこちで地中から芽を出してきました。庭中がタラノキになってはたまらないと、すべての芽の地上部を切りました。そのせいなのかは分かりませんが、今は実をたわわにつけ、種を蒔き散らそうとしているかのような状態です。

　毎年実がなる訳ではないので、タラノキが命を繋ごうとしているのかも知れません。でも単に、夏が暑かったからかも知れません。

　一つの果実を潰してみると、中から直径1mmほどの５つの小さな命が出てきました。

　The Aralia elata plant at my house have gotten too big, so I pruned it boldly. Perhaps sensing a sense of crisis, the tree spreads its roots through the garden and sprouted from ground here and there. I couldn't bear to see the entire garden turning into Aralia elata plants, so I cut off the aboveground parts of all the buds. I don't know if it's because of this, but right now it's producing a lot of fruit and looks like it's about to spread seeds.

　It doesn't bear fruit every year, so perhaps the Aralia elata plant is trying to survive. But maybe it was just because it was a hot summer.

　Five tiny creatures(aha) of about 1 mm in diameter emerged from the inside of a fruit when I crushed it.
