秋バラ autumn roses

バラが咲き始めましたが、例年より花の数が少なくバラ園も沈んだ雰囲気です。

The roses have begun to bloom, but the number of flowers is less than usual and the rose garden is meditative mood.

 バッタでも狙っているのですか。随分、目立つ場所に居ますね。うかうかしていると鳥の餌になってしまいますよ。

Are you aiming for grasshoppers or anything? You stand out when you are in such a place. If you are not careful enough, you will be a prey to birds.

ティザンヌの蕾 bud of tisane

 ティザンヌは黄色の花ですが、この蕾はピンク色です。このままピンクのままで咲くのか、黄色に変わっていくのか楽しみです。

Tizanne is a yellow flower, but this bud is pink. I am looking forward to seeing whether it will continue to bloom in pink or turn yellow in the future.

オシロイバナの実 seed of marvel of Peru

 オシロイバナの黒い実は、摘もうとすると、ころっと滑り落ちてしまうので、手のひらで受けるのがコツです。

黒い実を割ると、褐色の種皮の中に白い胚乳が入っていて、砕くと白い粉になります。

昔は、子どもたちがこの白い粉を頬に塗って、おしろいごっこをしましたが、有毒なので注意が必要です。

The black fruit of marvel of peru is slipping off when you attempt to pick it up, so the trick is to catch it with your palm. 

When you break it, you will find white endosperm in the brown seed coat, and when you crush it, it becomes a white powder.

In the old days, children applied this white powder to their cheeks and played a face powder, but they need to be careful because it is toxic.

コスモス cosmos

コスモスの花びらは薄いので、光が透過しやすいです。もう少し絞って撮影すればよかったのですが、後の祭りです。

Since the petals of cosmos are thin, sunlight passes through it easily.  I should have narrowed the shutter a little more, but it's too late.

イヌサフラン autumnal meadow saffron

 イヌサフランは有毒植物です。ジャガイモ、ギョウジャニンニク、玉ねぎ等と間違えて食べると死に至ります。

植物名にイヌの名前がつく場合、有用な植物に似ていても役に立たないとか、偽物という意味でつけられたものが多いです。

イヌにしてみれば、はた迷惑な命名だと思います。

Autumnal meadow saffron is a poisonous plant.

If you mistakenly eat it as potatoes, allium ochotense, onions, etc., you will die.

This plant name is dog-saffron in Japanese.

When a plant has "dog" in its name, it often means that it looks like a useful plant but is fake or useless.

I think it's an annoying name for dogs.

水引とホトトギス jumpseed & toad lily

 水引に結ばれたホトトギスです。

This toad lily was wrapped by jumpseeds.
Jumpseed is called "Mizuhiki" in Japanese. Mizuhiki means a decorative string made of red and white twisted paper that ties gift-money envelopes.
