ジャイアントパンダの返還 return of giant panda

 　上野動物園のジャイアントパンダのシャンシャンは、今月末までに中国に返還される予定でしたが、来年5月末まで延期されることになりました。理由は、専門スタッフが中国まで同行することが、新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大の影響で難しいと判断されたからです。

　一方、カナダのカルガリー動物園では、3年の期限を残して、アルシュンとダーマオの2頭を中国の重慶動物園に返還しました。新型コロナウイルスの世界的な大流行により、新鮮な竹を輸入するのが難しくなったからです。

　大人のジャイアントパンダは、毎日およそ４０キログラムの竹を食べるそうです。

　お国事情で対応は様々ですね。

　A giant panda ”Xiang Xiang” at the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, was scheduled to be returned to China by the end of this month, but has been postponed until the end of May next year. The reason is that it was considered difficult for professional staff to accompany her to China because of the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.

　Meanwhile, at the Calgary Zoo in Canada, two giant pandas, "Er Shun" and "Da Mao", have been returned to Chongqing Zoo in China, leaving a three-year deadline. With the coronavirus pandemic made it difficult to import fresh bamboo. 

　Each adult giant panda requires about 40 kilograms of bamboo a day.
