Cobbler's Pegs are a highly invasive non-native plant that grows wild in large numbers in vacant lots, riverbanks, and other areas. The black, slender seeds that form after the flowers wilt have hook-like bristles at their tips, so they cling tightly to clothing when they come into contact with it. When I was a kid, after playing to my heart’s content in the meadow, I’d spend a lot of time picking the seeds out of my pants. The children used to call these troublesome seeds "clingy bugs."
