Recently, "Hosoba-Akino-Nogeshi" tends to be included in "Akino-Nogeshi" in classification. The reason is that they are not different species, but rather variants of the same plant. The difference lies in the shape of the leaves. The leaves of "Hosoba-Akino-Nogeshi" are shaped like bamboo leaves, while the leaves of "Akino-Nogeshi" have deep notches along the edges.
However, I’ve heard that there are some plants in which the upper leaves exhibit characteristic "Hosoba-Akino-Nogeshi", while the lower leaves exhibit the characteristics of "Akino-Nogeshi". It doesn't seem like we need to categorize them.
"Hosoba-Akino-Nogeshi" and "Akino-Nogeshi" have the same English name: "Indian Lettuce."
