亜米利加梯梧(アメリカデイゴ) coral tree

　アメリカデイゴは、ブラジル原産の鳥媒花の植物です。枝の先端には、濃い赤橙色（せきとうしょく）の大きな花が群がって咲きます。アメリカデイゴはマメ科の植物ですが、通常見られるマメ科の花とは異なり、独特の形をしています。最も大きな花びら（旗弁）が下向きに開き、雄しべを包む筒（舟弁）が上側に突き出すように咲きます。この舟弁は、 2枚の花弁が合着して、鳥のくちばしのような形をしています。
　9本の雄しべの花糸は、合着して筒になっています。この筒の中に雌しべが1本隠れています。また別に雄しべが1本独立して存在していますが、この写真では見えません。
　この花の構造は、ハチドリがホバリングしながら、蜜を吸うのに最適な作りになっています。

　アメリカデイゴは、アルゼンチンとウルグアイで国花に制定されています。なお、スペイン語名はセイボ / Ceiboです。

　The Coral Tree is a bird-pollinated plant native to Brazil. Large, deep reddish-orange flowers bloom profusely at the tips of the branches. The Coral Tree is a member of the leguminous plant family, but unlike the flowers typically found in that family, it has a unique shape. The largest petal (the banner petal) opens downward, while the tube (the keel) that encloses the stamens protrudes upward. This keel consists of two fused petals and resembles a bird's beak.
　The filaments of the nine stamens are fused to form a tube. There is one pistil hidden inside this tube. There is also a single, separate stamen, but it is not visible in these images.
　The structure of this flower is perfectly suited for hummingbirds to sip nectar while hovering.
