星薊(ホシアザミ、イソトマ) isotoma

　毒性のある花です。茎や葉を切ったときに出る白い乳液に触れると、皮膚がかぶれたり、炎症を起こしたりします。目に入った場合、ひどい場合は失明の恐れがあります。
　植物の多くには毒性がありますが、それは種の保存のためです。動くことができない植物は、虫や動物に食べ尽くされて、絶滅しないよう、体内で毒をつくり出して、外敵から身を守る必要があります。
　画家の岡本太郎は、かつてこんなことを言っていました。「自分の中に毒を持て」。つまり、常識にとらわれず、強い個性を持って、人生を歩めということです。でも、一歩間違えると、他人に心理的な害を与える、困った人になってしまいますね。

　This flower is poisonous. If you come into contact with the white liquid that oozes out when the stems or leaves are cut, it can cause skin irritation or inflammation. If it gets into your eyes, it could cause blindness in severe cases. 
　Many plants are toxic, but this is for the sake of preserving their species. Since plants cannot move, they produce toxins within their bodies to protect themselves from predators and prevent being eaten by insects and animals, thus avoiding extinction.
　The painter Taro Okamoto once said the following: "Hold onto poison within yourself." In other words, this means you should live your life with a strong sense of individuality, without being bound by conventional wisdom. But if you make one wrong step, you could end up being the kind of person who causes psychological harm to others.
