洋種山牛蒡(ヨウシュヤマゴボウ) pokeweed

　熟した果実を潰すと、赤紫色の果汁が得られます。この果汁は染料として利用できます。英語名のpokeweedの語源は、アメリカ先住民の言葉で、赤い染料を意味するpokeと、英語の雑草を意味するweedの合成語です。
　アメリカ合衆国では、かつて安価なワインの着色料として用いられたこともあったようです。

　In the United States, it was apparently once used as a coloring agent for inexpensive wines.
