ヘラオオバコ English plantain

　今年は、ヘラオオバコの当たり年のようです。河原のそばの空き地には、今まで見たこともない、大規模な群生ができています。
　その花の構造は、穂の周りに沢山の細い雄しべの花糸（雄しべの細い軸）が横方向に突き出して、その先に葯（花粉を作る器官）がついています。
　穂を恒星に例えると、葯は惑星のように思えてきます。ヘラオオバコの群生に足を踏み込むと、宇宙の恒星系（Star system）を見渡しているようです。

　This year seems to be a banner year for English Plantain. There is a huge colony of them in the vacant lot beside the riverbank, I have never seen anything like this.
　The structure of the flower is like that many thin stamen filaments (slender stark of stamen) protruding laterally from the spike (flowering stem), with anthers (organs: produce pollen) at the ends.
　If I liken the spike to a fixed star, then the anthers look like planets. Stepping into a growing cluster of them, I feel like gazing out over a star system in the universe.
