宇宙で咲く百日草(ジニア) Zinnia Blooming in Space

　2016年に国際宇宙ステ―ション（ISS）において、スコット・ケリー宇宙飛行士が、ジニアを種から花を咲かせることに成功したと、NASAが公表しました。
　宇宙で植物を育てるのが難しいのは、
　・重力が無いこと　・空気が滞留しない
　ことが主な要因です。
　重力がないと、水が球状の塊になって根の周りに滞留して根腐れを起こします。
　空気が対流しないと、湿気が葉の周りに滞留して、病原菌が繁殖しやすい環境になります。
　宇宙で、人が生活するのも、大変困難だと容易に想像できます。

　NASA announced in 2016 that astronaut Scott Kelly successfully grew a Zinnia from seed to flower aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
　It is hard to grow plants in space. The main reasons are that neither gravity nor air circulation exists.
　Without gravity, water forms a spherical mass that remains around the roots, leading to root rot.
　Without air circulate, moisture remains around the leaves, creating an environment where pathogens can easily thrive.
　It's easy to envision that human life in space is also incredibly challenging.
