痩靫(ヤセウツボ) common broomrape

　今年の4月21日に、ヤセウツボの記事を投稿しました。今回は後日談です。既に、お話ししましたように、ヤセウツボは葉も葉緑素を持たないので、自分で光合成を行って養分を作ることはできません。他の植物に寄生して成長します。アカツメクサの花が周りに見えます。地下では、ヤセウツボは、自分の根をアカツメクサの根に突き刺して養分を吸い取っていると思われます。アカツメクサは、ヤセウツボから恩恵を受けることは一切ありません。ヤセウツボは、日本国内では要注意外来生物に指定されています。

　I posted the article about a Common Broomrape on April 21st of this year. This is a follow-up story. Due to it has neither leaves nor chlorophyll, it cannot make nutrients by doing photosynthesis itself. It grows as a parasite on other plants. You see a Red Clover next to it. I believe that underground, Common Broomrape inserts its root into the root of Red Clover and absorb nutrients. Red Clover receives no benefit whatsoever from the parasite. The Common Broomrape is designated as a potentially invasive species in Japan.
