継子の尻拭い(ママコノシリヌグイ) persicaria senticosa

　ママコノシリヌグイは、東アジア原産のつる性の植物です。花弁に見えるのは、実は萼片で基部が白色で、先端がピンクです。茎や葉には、下向きの鋭いトゲがあり、不用意に触れると痛い思いをします。

　Persicaria senticosa is a climbing plant native to East Asia. What look like petals are actually sepals; they are white at the base and pink at the tips. The stems and leaves have sharp, downward-pointing thorns, and if you touch them carelessly, you’ll regret it.

　The Japanese name for Persicaria Centicosa is “Mamako-no-Shiri-Nugui.” Its literal meaning is "to wipe a stepchild's bottom," which makes for a significant sad name.
