藤壺(フジツボ) barnacle

　フジツボの名前は、外見的な特徴から（富士山＋壺）富士壺と付けられましたが、優雅な漢字である藤を使うのが一般的になりました。　貝のように見えるので、軟体動物と間違えられやすいですが、甲殻類です。エビやカニと同様に関節のある足を持っていますが、岩や船底などに定住した後は歩くためでなく、プランクトンを捕まえる役目を持ちます。

　Because it looks like a shellfish, it is often mistaken for a mollusk, but it is actually a crustacean. Like shrimp and crabs, they have jointed legs, but once they anchor on a rock or a bottom of a ship, etc., these legs are used not for walking but for catching plankton.
