猩猩草(ショウジョウソウ) fire-on-the-mountain

　茎の頂点近くに付く葉の基部が、朱色に色づき、花より鮮やかで目を引きます。道路と石垣の隙間の同じ場所から、毎年生えてきます。この隙間に、種を差し込む人はいないと思うので、こぼれ種から勝手に育つのでしょう。

　The bases of the leaves near the top of the stem turn a vermilion color, which is even more vivid than the flowers and really catches the eye. It sprouts every year from the same gap between the road and the stone wall. I don't think anyone put seeds in this gap, so they must be grown on their own from seeds that fell there.
